Loft insulation installed yesterday - 8 rolls for space 46 sq m. Last night my bedroom was 9 degrees so not much warmer, maybe 1 degree. And the living room temp was not much higher - 15 degrees after 2 hours of heating on (only heating up to 3 hours daily in upstairs flat. The bathroom feels a bit warmer but that is the middle bit, the building has a cold gable end. I was hoping for a big difference so am feeling disappionted.

Maybe it will hold on the the heat for longer though..so the 9 degrees won;t drop back down so quickly? That's what I would have thought.

Thanks the bedroom will not drop from that as I am not heating it - only 2 rads on - living room and kitchen and the bathroom heated towel rail. I dont mind a cold bedroom as I have a lovely duvet, its goose down and I love it very much. It comes onto the sofa in an evening so no heating required whilst watching telly.

That's what i've found after our loft was insulated. If the room is cold to start with it won't get any warmer (but it'll probably stop it getting even colder), but it does hold the heat in for a good time longer.

Perhaps the `fabric` of the room needs to slowly increase first before there is a rise in the air temperature? The biggest difference is in the sound insulation. Yes indeed the heat doers stay longer now instead of just quickly disappearing through the roof which had no insulation at all.

Really, really cold today, weve got that cold wind blowing making everywhere extra cold, that blasted wind go through you, woke up to a sharp frost, ive got the heating on, and it will be until we go to bed...........
  • I've just worked out that the CH pilot light and the Multipoint pilot lights together cost £3 per week to run nowadays!
Just been gardening a 4 mile bike ride away and am now warming my toes up on a hot water bottle. Luxury!
At least the CH pilot light keeps the bathroom radiator aired so my towel doesn't feel as cold hung over the radiator as when left the edge of the bath.

Really cold today ,the winds bitter. We have managed to keep it off but it was getting to the point where I thought I would have to flick that switch,it was only the thought of the cost that stopped me

Have had mine on constant but lowish for the last couple of days, got it back on timer today though, (a couple of hours in the morning, later afternoon, late evening) probably 'cos I'm loaded with the cold and feeling the heat - nobody's complained yet though so I'll keep it that way for now:D

Have had only livingroom storage heater on at low but am going to put some heat into bedroom just for half an hour before we go to bed and also might put on lobby heater. We are lucky with new (last yr) storage heaters and our electricity costs are low. Have no gas here. Must keep warm enough though.
