brrrr....it WAS very cold this morning, quite hard to get up, though the car wasn't as icey. and the condensation is bad this morning again....so it might be a daily issue beteen now and spring. The dogs are likely to be stuck in the house much of today and so, having aired their ''bedroom'' I have put their heat lamp on, so hopefully they will relax and sleep, and I have lit the woodburner BUT rather than concentrate on keeping one room warm I'm planning to open the door between this room an the next in order to direct some heat (hopefully enough to help with any damp) into the next room.

Very cold here today, but luckily no ice or snow. When there is snow in Scotland we feel it in the air, so the air is very icy.
  • We've had two rads on (bathroom and lounge) for 45 min before we get up and 45 min. around the time I close the curtains for the past few weeks, but I think we're going to have to go for more now. Does anyone know which would be more efficient, putting the bedroom rad. on or just increasing the time on the two we already had on? The flat is struggling with condensation but I can barely afford what I'm using now.

New woodburner in our new looking dining room. DH decorated and sanded the floors. I only helped varnish the floors as spent a day and a half cleaning up the sawdust that got everywhere.

That's looks great, also what I like about it is there'll be little or no draught when you don't need to light it. That alone would be a big increase in economy not to mention comfort. What I've often wondered about these wood burning stoves is how much they cost to run? Are they more economical then gas or oil central heating?

Comes on every moring at 8am for an hour, then at 5.30pm for an hour. Had to put it on at 3o'clock this afternoon though, as had visitors and didn't think they'd appreciate being handed a fleece and thermal sox as they walked in the door :D

mine is very much on, to heat the house to 18 degrees for an hour in the morning (otherwise I'd never get out of my cosy bed), a half hour downstairs for when we get home and a half hour upstairs when the kids go to bed to encourage them to wash rather than jump into bed fully clothed. I'll stick it on additionally if it gets below to 14 degrees or below in the lounge as my thumbs start to seize up below that temp: I've scrimped all summer on gas and electric in order to be able to use the heating this winter: last winter was really not nice, at times I didn't know whether my eyesight was going funny because of the cold or we really did have mist in the house!

I'm also (shhhh) using the tumble dryer during the week. Outside drying doesn't happen for me at this time of year as I leave in the dark for work and get home in the dark, usually to washing that is wetter than when I hung it out and icy cold to boot. The condensation internally on the long gable end of our house (which all rooms connect to apart from the kitchen) is dreadful if I try to dry clothes in front of the radiators (when they are on), and if I don't have them on they just don't dry for days, going musty in the process. I'm funding this by being extremely pennypinching in terms of having lights on, boiling a kettle once a day and putting in a thermos, unplugging everything that isn't in use at that time and letting the kids wear pyjamas all day on sunday to cut down the washing :)
    :AA/give up smoking (done) :)

DH put the heating on this morning to "test" it for 20 mins. Yes ,it still works. Log fire is lit tonight. no central heating though.
  • well we are on pre payment meters and actually im going to keep them as got into a bit of a problem at previous house..........just moved.
well last week we put on £25 for gas and electric, today £10 gas left and £18 on electric so im banning the gas oven for as long as i can go???(do need to make some xmas cookies though as gifts for grandparents etc).

So instead im going to try and cook every meal in the evening this week in the slow cooker and see how long i can go.

Well the heating comes on for 2 hrs in the morning, im pregnant and have a 4 year old ds and then it comes back on at 5:30pm till 10pm set to 19c on the thermostat, we have baths everyother day ds first as he doesnt need alot of water and cant be too hot......other half likes it red hot and fills it.......then i get in when its cooled down abit as im not allowed a red hot bath just incase it causes problems or starts me off into premature labour.

This is it after crimbo and winter period has passed il be reviewing my pre payment prices and go to another company one that probably does not have a standing charge for gas.x
