We've not put ours on yet. Last night we sat watching the telly with our fleeces on and duvets over us! I've rolled up an old towel and using that as a draught excluder in the hall as there is a massive gap which blows in cold air. I might have to put it on tonight tho as I'm feeling a bit ill.. got aches and pains and feel a cold coming on. We'll see - a cup of hot water, lemon and honey might do the trick! BBRRRrrrr.

We are waiting for the flat below us to put their heating on.. but they won't, the stingy gits!

My problem is that my boiler and heating system is sooo old that it doesn't have a thermostat! Its just on full blast or off! We either boil or freeze. We have had it serviced and it is all safe and everything but not very efficient. We really need to have the whole system replaced but just can't afford it! So, hohum, for the time being, it stays off!

Would it help or be possible to have thermostatic valves fitted to your radiators?

What do I know? it might be cheaper than replacing the whole lot though?

I've just been for a wee and nearly jumped up and hit the roof when I first sat down. The seat was soo cold!

I'll put the central heating on tomorrow for a few hours, as I live in a flat so no other means to get the washing dry. I'm sat here at the moment with the gas fire on low, but i've two cockatiels so i've got to maintain a certain temperature, as they are tropical birds.
This space is available to rent... :D

I'm quite lucky being in a new build and having floors above and below me so I haven't really felt the chill that much yet. also, I picked up a pair of knitted ugg-type slippers from The Gap last time I was in the states for a tenner and I swear to dog they are one of my best purchases ever. I put them on and I could walk naked through a snowstorm without feeling it.
  • I also have economy 7 heaters in my flat, that also dont work. Although I dont think its the best form of heating, kicking out all the heat when you're in work all day & cold by the evening when you need it!

I use electric oil heaters as my form of heat. Got a 2kw one from b&q 2 years ago for £45, thermastat and a timer so you can set it to come on & go off as needed, I find it very good. I also have a little one I have in the bedroom which takes the edge off the chillyness before I go to bed. Surprising how much difference a fleece blanket makes on the bed too!
  • I have to admit to putting mine on I'm afraid. I couldn't last out any longer. I don't like to be sitting around cold.

So far so good at our house. I'm determined to last out till 1st November, or at least until the baby arrives- things will HAVE to be very diffferent then!!

We've got the draught excluders down and Im snuggled under the fleecey blanket at the moment with just one light on in the whole house :o

Nope, not yet but the big difference for me is that since last winter my children have moved out so i don't have the worry of heating them in their bedrooms.
I bought cheap but snuggly dressing gowns with hoods for me and my husband and some furry throws from primark. Remember to put the fur against your body and not the nylon side. That's cold and sweaty!
