I've just switched my heating on
. but it will be off by half 7 at the latest. I'm lucky to have cavity wall and loft insulation so my house should still be nice and warm in the morning.
Will have to see what the weather is like each day before deciding if it goes on again or not but if I can manage between 5-10 evenings with the heating on this month I will be a very happy person!
Well done to those still holding out! :T

I have to say, that having the cavity walls insulated last year really have made a difference to the temperature in the house.
I nearly put the heat on earlier, but cooking dinner helped warm the place up. Plus, we will be under duvets with candles burning whilst x-factor is on, so that should rule out the need for the heating.
I will have to turn it on in the morning though if it's colder than it has been today. I signed up to NPower's spreading the warmth so will use up their discount before I'm paying for it which softens the blow, so to speak

My problem is that my boiler and heating system is sooo old that it doesn't have a thermostat! Its just on full blast or off! We either boil or freeze. We have had it serviced and it is all safe and everything but not very efficient. We really need to have the whole system replaced but just can't afford it! So, hohum, for the time being, it stays off!
Snap!
I went to turn our radiators on today and 3 of them aren't working. Both main bedroom ones and the hall radiators are all cold and have all been bled, there wasn't any air in there.
I will have to get the engineer out to take a look. Luckily we have the service plan and he is due to come and do the annual service anytime now so I may as well get him to do that at the same time.
I'm glad we have the two oil filled radiators to keep us going until then.0 -
We're still holding out but, oh boy, is it cold here!!
Last night dd(16) went to bed at about 9pm as she was cold, dd(6) wore pyjamas for the first time in ages and asked for an extra blanket and DH wore pyjamas to bed for the first time in years! (Well I say pjs - it was actually jogging bottoms and a sweatshirt!)
And during the evening yesterday he put his woolley hat on while watching TV and said he was amazed how much it warmed him up (he had a fleece blanket wrapped around him as well).
And I very nearly butchered my fleece gloves! I thought if I cut off the just the finger tips, they will be practical but warmer than normal fingerless gloves! I've taken to wearing my fleece and dressing gown over my clothes pretty much all day too.
Hee hee, dd(16) has actually started wearing long sleeved clothing at home too which is something I never thought I'd see!
It's quite funny at the moment but I don't know how much longer we can hold out tbh.
It's bad really because we have lived in some appalling places with no heating at all. I reckon it's because it's available to us that we are thinking so much about it!0 -
Pipkin --maybe your downstairs is HAUNTED !
Now now Mardatha - I was being very tactful for once in my life and not mentioning that little thought:D
That was what I meant by my comment that if all the practical suggestions didnt work then come back to us again about this problem - the thought did cross my mind that it might be a "cold spot" for a non-material reason - but methinks I'd be checking all the practical aspects first before wondering what, if any, building used to be on that site;)
naughty woman - slap wrists!:D . We'll put you on the "naughty step" - err....when I've vacated it that is;)0 -
My lounge this morning was the warmest place and it was 62 degrees. The hallway was very much colder so have spent half the day shutting the door as others have left it open.
Heating still not on and lounge now 65, cooking dinner in oven warmed us up a bit. Supposed to be warmer tomorrow down south so may last a few more days. Monday morning at 5.15am may be a bit painful though.:o

Still haven't turned mine on yet, but I have graduated to my BIG jumper and have dug out my fingerless gloves.
I'm never totally convinced of the benefits of fingerless gloves, your palms do stay warm and toasty, but your cold finger tips seem more noticable. Although they stay a better colour.
Should be okay as long as it doesn't get too much colder. I think having an outdoors job helps.0 -
We have bought draught excluders and window seal today, going to put silver foil behind the radiators, the lads have fleece pyjamas and an extra blanket on their beds and we are getting a blind for the back door.0

No no not yet. But then we live in a first floor flat with neighbors either side. Have lit about 10 tea lights, which burn for at least 3 hours, lighting up the living room (saving electricity) and warming up the room. But also snuggling up on sofa with slippers, fleece blanket and thick jumper.Challenges:
