I've just caved and put mine on for a bit - both DD's are layered up - sitting under fleecy blankets and wearing hats.....it's so windy and dark here and the rain is lashing down...... At least I made it past the 1st October."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0

vey basic but better than nothing. Well he now has a cushion in an old pillowcase stuffed in the bottom of it so he has comfy padding. He was quite happy in it but think with this weather he needed somethign to snuggle into -thinking about getting him one of those large cat beds that are a bit like a hole - maybe he'll be warmer and more comfortable
My 4 yer old also gave me a good idea - hes been off playign in his rooma dn has obviously been in the 'no children allowed to open this tub' as hes reappeared witha teddy dressed in some of his old clothes - brainwave!!! - now my doggy is sporting the latest fashion - a small tshirt that was my sons at about 6 months - which has the words 'teddy made me do it' written across the front - although the front is now on the dogs back - but he looks warmer and seems to be cuddling up happily with my 4 year old now so hey ho - wont need the doggy jumper after all.and the slogan seems quite fitting for a jack russell.
my sister also gave me a bit of advice that her american bulldog use to stop eating in winter too and she said take his food up and give him a small dish of water nad to feed him chicken soup. The thinking being its full of nutrients for him and if hes hungry he'll eat it, also he has a drink available and that i can slowly add some of his dry food to it so it goes soggy.
Awww - can we see a snap of your dog in his T-shirt? I'll bet he's a real picture, bless him. It does sound like a good slogan for a Jack Russell.:DSome people hear voices, some see invisible people. Others have no imagination whatsoever

For those that are not turning on the heating;
Set the thermostat to 5 degrees C or something nominal - burst frozen water pipes are not cheap to repair and anything lower than 5C is getting a little silly.
Turn the heating on and set the thermostat to max for a few minutes per month until the lower corner of one of the radiators becomes warm, this costs less than 5 pence a month, compared to the 3 figure plumbing bill for a replacement seized water pump. (Do this throughout the year, not just in winter) Doing this will also give you the confidence that your heating will work when you really need it - ie elderly guests etc.
Make sure your wrists, ankles and the back of your neck are covered/warm and you will be much more comfortable in the cold.0 -
i couldnt hold out any longer.. so hubby went out to get a bag of coal to light the fire....so now its burning away nicely, and we have the pump on, so all the house is getting a good warming...
its not only becuase of the cold snap ye4sturday, but its the flipping rain that making the house cold and damp.
at least i havent got to sleep with my duvet and a sleeping bag tonight :cool:Work to live= not live to work0 -

My problem is that my boiler and heating system is sooo old that it doesn't have a thermostat! Its just on full blast or off! We either boil or freeze. We have had it serviced and it is all safe and everything but not very efficient. We really need to have the whole system replaced but just can't afford it! So, hohum, for the time being, it stays off!:)Do more of what makes you happy:)0 -

Then give it a short blast a few times a year, you cannot expect a metal water pump to perform after several months of standing idle with water inside it.
But I do understand your problem. :beer:0 -

I've definitely noticed it. I moved into this flat in the summer and now the winter is creeping in I've noticed my only 2 electric 'economy 7 heaters' don't work. I've also found cracks where the floor and the wall meet and when I put my hand there I feel a cold breeze coming through. What's worse is I live on the corner. Luckily though the main front windows are getting double glazing put in soon.
This past week I've been wearing a hoodie, even to bed. I now have a huge appreciation of what old people have to deal with. It's frightening to think of someone in the same situation as me who's part of the old skool generation. I'm struggling and I'm young and fit.
Can anyone recommend a not too expensive decent electric heater? I can't feel my toes.
I thought of getting a halogen heater but I was thinking the brightness of it may be distracting whilst I'm browsing :rotfl:.
