Is your heating ON or OFF?

Heating wise...
I only have a cooker in the kitchen, so when we cook especially if it's in the oven the kitchen gets warmed up and then it kind of stays warm enough to wander in and out of the kitchen until we hit the sack.
In the "bedroom" -the only other habitable room in the house- we have a gas fire, this is usually now switched on in the morning for an hour before we both go out. and in the evenings it is on full blast untill the place warms up then turned up and down to suit, until bedtime when it is turned off again.
My parent's house is like an oven, I can't stand it, I have to get changed into shorts and a T-shirt and no socks when ever we go there.0 -
Still no heating on here in South London...... but am weakening! it's about 17.5 degrees now in the flat - the last couple of days of fog and general cold dampness have eroded the 20 degrees i mnaged to get the flat up to on Saturday.
am still going to try and see if can hold out for another few days - hopefully we will get some sun and some mild nights and can get to the magic 1 December date without heating. Partner is back tomorrow and will notice the cold. i may be under pressure to put some heat on but if so, i suppose 22nd November is pretty good. Will report back!:j0 -
Well, I've kept posting on here saying heating still not on, but now it is unfortunately, 1 and a half hours morning and night.
We live near to sea so getting alot of fog, and very cold with it. Sometimes though it can be quite pretty, with low lying, swirling mist, but can see the stars.
I hate radiator heat with a passion though. I was brought up with open coal/log fires, and before moving, last year, me and hubby had cottage for 28 years with coal fire. Well we used to buy what is called 'slab wood' from our local timber mill. We bought it in huge bundles, which my hubby sawed into logs on his band saw. A bundle used to last us several months, and only cost £23.50.
Now we have gas CH. It makes me feel so ill - feeling sick, and throbbing headache. Long for my open fire back, sitting around it on a winter's night, toasting our knees.

My back door was open for a lot of yesterday evening with a foul wind blowing through... but enough about my bodily functions.... Heating is still off with no sign of it coming on any time soon; just the occasional cool breeze when the patio doors are open but far from 'cold', still quite warm. Car window was open on the way to work this morning as well, 9c outside (apparently) at 6:30am0

dogstarheaven wrote: »well, i did.. much to the detriment of my relationship with my OH (on one particularly hoary day, he threatened to leave me if i didn't allow the heating on:o:o:o - i know.. am a bad partner). it was only around 10 separate days of heating at about an hour at a time. visitors that came, just came and stayed as long as they could muster (their fault for wearing thin summer short sleeved tops - stoopid!). My OH could of put the heating on w/o my knowledge whilst I was out out work, but I had to follow thru' the mission on keeping my costs down. It's extreme behaviour, but I am of the belief that you have to make every penny last.
One of our biggest expenses this yr, has been on the lotti which we acquired in Feb. and buying lots of material, slabs etc., We don't run a car and we went w/o a holiday too (our only one was a w/e in the Peaks camping). Last winter, I had my only child who understood my reasons for not buying her a Xmas and birthday present (shock - sorry, but I was totally skint and my OH was out of work). Everyone got 'family presents' with HM jams, pies, cookies and chutney.
Anyway, back to my cold from last week. it gradually calmed down and after 2 days, it went. I have an intermittent cough that worsens at night, but it's not so bad. Unfortunately, I rely on a medical herbalist for treatment with this, but have been unable to reach her... (treatment is normally about £20 pw but it's worth it if you want to get rid of a nasty persistant cough that stops you from sleeping or functioning properly).
What others have remarked on looking after my health whilst being a MSE is that I shouldn't ignore it, whereas I had. Last yr, I had to take time off for an ear infection (a week - not so good as it was about 8days before xmas) as i was so poorly. it didn't help that the dept store i worked in had extreme contrasting temps to work in.
Reading what others have said, I have taken on board what you've said and shall take my health needs more seriously. after all, the points system at work for taking sick days is currently on topic atm!:(:(:(
just to let you know, our heating isn't to be switched on as yet.. we're not in the minuses so we'll see...Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

if it's persistant your £20 a week isn't working.0 -

I didn't want to scare her, but she must get it sorted today.
When was the last time your boiler was serviced? Is it your house or rented? Do you have a gas fire as well?Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
