Was going to browse this thread for tips but at 384 pages I might see if I can get a digest :D

My heating is currently ON, but on a timer. Our flat does get quite chilly as it has very high ceilings and not a lot of sunlight, but my partner and I both have serious computers that heat our legs pretty well under the desks when we're in ;) and we're also trying desperately to keep our gas use as low as possible as we've had some problems with British Gas. They tried to make our DD £50 per month, WITHOUT ASKING (when we can prove with meter readings that we only use £30 at the most), they just changed it and sent a letter! I had to raise a complaint! We can't change supplier as we rent, but they don't know that. Sorry, that's another thread :D

We have a timer thermostat doodad that turns the heating on from 7am - 8am (when I'm getting up and getting ready for work), from 12:30pm - 1:30pm to stop the cat freezing while we're out, and from 9:30pm - 10:30pm to warm the bedroom before we go to bed.

A little on the chilly side today with some sunshine, now got the heating on, seems as though its been dark since lunch time, no wonder winter feels long even if its not perishing cold, I do hate drab weather , would rather have frosts and sunny days.........

Not been a bad day here today, I put the heating on at 7 and had to turn it off an hour later, plus I did just go outside in my dressing gown to get some fresh air, it really is far too mild......must be one of the cheapest Novembers for me with the heating , soon be December 1 st............
  • I've still not had the heating on in the mornings before work and only had it on for an hour in the evenings when it gets dark to take the chill off the house.
That was until today when I was freezing even after doing lots of housework so had it on for two hours this afternoon - its been off all night since though. I think its actually warmed up tonight outside -strange!

I'm actually waiting for my bill to come this time - I'm keen to see what I've actually spent now I'm more conscious of the heating useage.
I'm guessing that the bill won't actually be any cheaper with the price increses but we'll see.
  • I'm still bidding for heaters on eBay! I won't be heating my flat until I get a bargain

Bit annoying at work, actually, that the girl who sits next to me won't let me open a window because she gets cold. She's wearing a vest top !!!!!!! I'd much rather snuggle into my woolly jumper and get some fresh air :(

they're doing heaters for a tenner in B&Q
  • 3am this morning I woke up with a mouth like a gorilla's cod piece, then at 6am I woke up again and my mouth was the same. At 9am I woke up again needing another drink and I realised the house was absolutely baking, The heating is still off but it seems to think it's summer; although t about 8pm I had to shut the back door and put a jumper on but the door is open again and it's quite warm.
  • Very proud to say the heating has not gone on since New years day. Don't think we will make it to a year without turning it on but holding out longer then ever thought we would. Think a huge difference is that in march we had our sash windows tarted up so rotting wood replaced with new making it less draughty. Still single glazed though. We also had more insulation put in the attic and draught excluders on the windows.
Guests keep their coats on occasionally but we don't feel it!
  • if you kept it off through January and February, you shouldn't have much trouble keeping it off for the year... can't see the weather changing that fast.
