How did you possibly manage to get away with 10 days at an hour a time last year? I would have said that's impossible. What temp was your house last year?
well, i did.. much to the detriment of my relationship with my OH (on one particularly hoary day, he threatened to leave me if i didn't allow the heating on:o:o:o - i know.. am a bad partner). it was only around 10 separate days of heating at about an hour at a time. visitors that came, just came and stayed as long as they could muster (their fault for wearing thin summer short sleeved tops - stoopid!). My OH could of put the heating on w/o my knowledge whilst I was out out work, but I had to follow thru' the mission on keeping my costs down. It's extreme behaviour, but I am of the belief that you have to make every penny last.
One of our biggest expenses this yr, has been on the lotti which we acquired in Feb. and buying lots of material, slabs etc., We don't run a car and we went w/o a holiday too (our only one was a w/e in the Peaks camping). Last winter, I had my only child who understood my reasons for not buying her a Xmas and birthday present (shock - sorry, but I was totally skint and my OH was out of work). Everyone got 'family presents' with HM jams, pies, cookies and chutney.
Anyway, back to my cold from last week. it gradually calmed down and after 2 days, it went. I have an intermittent cough that worsens at night, but it's not so bad. Unfortunately, I rely on a medical herbalist for treatment with this, but have been unable to reach her... (treatment is normally about £20 pw but it's worth it if you want to get rid of a nasty persistant cough that stops you from sleeping or functioning properly).
What others have remarked on looking after my health whilst being a MSE is that I shouldn't ignore it, whereas I had. Last yr, I had to take time off for an ear infection (a week - not so good as it was about 8days before xmas) as i was so poorly. it didn't help that the dept store i worked in had extreme contrasting temps to work in.
Reading what others have said, I have taken on board what you've said and shall take my health needs more seriously. after all, the points system at work for taking sick days is currently on topic atm!:(:(:(
just to let you know, our heating isn't to be switched on as yet.. we're not in the minuses so we'll see...0 -
Well, I finally had the old broken window in the bedroom replaced today by the landlady, so it's goodbye condensation and black mould and hello double glazing.
I may even get away with turning the neating in the bedroom down to its lowest setting. (I hate my the bedroom being too warm)Aiming to be Debt free by October 20130 -

Not thick ... I think the thread is about keeping warm OS styleee and for us it is OS because we dont pay for the wood.
I even boiled a pan of water on the Log Burner today because the electric was off for most of the day lol

Yea that quote always get to me !!. whether its a woodburner or a gas stove, unless you get your wood/coal free then you are paying for it and its on.....................and the price of coal and wood is going through the roof, we live in the country ,but wood has never been cheap, and so many people have now got woodburners, so up goes the price.........
Ive got my central heating on, weve had a weekend of damp watery sunshine ,if you know what I mean, and its about 11 degrees outside and its 21 degrees inside now, weve both got bad health in this house so we wont have a cold uncomfortable home..........0 -
I had to put the heater on tonight as the cold is beginning to bite, I got home at 19:30 after being out and about all day and I just want to feel comfy. It's on low though. :ABe careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0
