It's colder here because we've had rain and a cold wind for the last few days but still not needed a winter jacket yet. Have set the heating to come on for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening for the kids bath, which has the added bonus of helping the washing dry.In Progress!!!0

I've got a digital thermometer on the coffee table and it's reading 19c. Heating is off and the patio door is open for the dogs.0

i got a cold now. first sign was last night at work with a horrible sore throat, and this morning woke up feeling all bunged-up with nose-dripping. i've tanked myself up with all the flu pills, vits etc, and i hope it'll go away soon. i can't afford to take time off work as we have a penalty system for sick days.. it's horrid getting ill. i know that having the house unheated doesn't help, but i don't want to increase our outgoings.
if you remember my replies to this thread from last winter, i didn't have the heating on v. much. in fact probably about 10 days at about an hour each time. i know.. i'm crazy, but this is one way of saving a few hundred pounds (got my refund back from the gas board only a few months ago). maybe i am being a martyr to the ultimate MSE ways, but it's only when it's absolutely cold like minus 10 or something. are any of you lot think along the same lines, or am i being too pig-headed about this???!0 -

Its entirely up to you about not putting the heating if your happy without, but I think -10 is much too cold, last year was one of the coldest winters so if you only had your heating on for 10 days you either done well or like you say you are crazy.....Im all for saving a bit on heating too, but I wont let my health suffer due to it, plus your home itself needs a bit of warmth......but if your happy then go for it...........:DIts been mild here overnight and is suppose to be 15 degrees today and all of this week, so thats good for a lot of us not too have the heating on for hours on end............Like the other poster said we may get to Dec 1 before it really turns cold and frosty , its definately warm here in East Anglia..............I dont really think its fair though to have a penallty system at work for sickness days off cos people do get genuinly sick whatever, like you are at the moment and then you come home to a cold house, some bosses cant get enough out of the staff can they .?....0 -
Had the halogen heater on for an hour in morning and hour in evening yesterday, just enough to take the chill off. Felt it was justified as I had on 3 layers and was still cold!!
It's noticeably warmer inside today thank goodness!
I really feel the cold easily, never used to as I am carrying extra weight, but I think last year wrecked my internal thermostat after spending the winter in a flat with no heating with the temperatures outside reaching -25c!!Trying very hard to be frugal and OS - just plodding on and doing my best!

Its strangely warm today,so hopefully it might stay that way.
This weather is mad though, hardly typical for November is it.0 -
dogstarheaven, if you aren't going to put your heating on for goodness sake wrap up warmly, keep your personal space warm (good underwear, electric blanket/hot water bottle (not at the same time!!!) and eat very healtily. Keep hot drinks going in and don't be reckless with your health: do what you need to do to get well.0

I think it depends partly on the property. In our London flat we went the whole winter without heating, even when it snowed. it wasn't ''warm'' but neither was it freezing because we had flats below and to one side and they kept it safe from freezing entirely. Here, I think it would damage our house if I didn't relent for the cold wet bits.0
