There's a biting wind here and its really quite cold outside but inside its not too bad so far - will see how it is when it gets dark and if needed the heating will go on for an hour later.... don't want to give in yet:(
  • Mine is on in wales, just for 1 hr, first time in my new house. Not going to put it on the timer, hoping it will stay warm all night now!!! In for a cold one here tonight with frost on the cars tomorrow! Oh Joy!!

Outside temp right now is 5.8c brrrrrrrrrrrrr! -NE Scotland

Heating cannot go on as it's horrid stupid electric storage heaters that we cannot afford to run :/ fella is off to buy a Halogen heater and I am considering buying an old fashioned free standing eletric fire, I don't care if it looks retro and awful, I want to be warm! Thick curtains have been put up at the window in lounge this afternoon.

I am sitting wrapped in an eiderdown, wearing thick tights, thick socks, jeans, vest top, dress and 2 cardigans and a hat!

ETA just checked the met office and tomorrow will struggle to get above 3c and on Friday we are due 14c?! that seems a bit out to me pmsl!!

3.9C outside now but still no heating here. We too storage heaters too but have no problems with them. Keep us nice and warm and affordable.

Just turned mine on at home for the first time, but mostly to check everything is ok with the pipes and system as it hasn't been on for months and we move out soon. Need to get used to the cold again as our new house has no heating in it at all. Will remind me of being a child and wearing 3 t-shirts, a long sleeved top, a jumper and a fleece in the house in the middle of winter as it didn't have heating. The OH isn't used to the cold, so may actually encourage him to get the lovely multifuel stove put in that I want.

Well, we've got problems with the boiler losing pressure so the plumber did something to it, put it on and yesterday I'd to run it set at 25 for over an hour:eek:

Anyway, the room thermostat was showing 12 when I got in from work today and due to the biting wind and it's direction the house is freezing. Have put it on but just knocked thermostat up to 16.

We got the new stove in, but the builder comes tomorrow to cement it in and fix the flue into the chimney, so although its sitting there looking nice and cosy, there's a bloody great hole in the wall behind it and its baltic in here . Have clothes on, dressing gown on top, and a HWB on my lap. :D

Am in the same boat about not moving about to keep warm as am off work with a bad back. You don't realise how cold you get just being lying down or sitting do you?

Think you musn't be too far from me? am in Moray :)

100% with you on that one!

I didn't realise either how cold you get just sitting / lying all the time. If I was able to get up and do something, I'd be fine - usually take myself off for a spot of vaccuming etc & it does the trick:) (or take the dog for a walk which makes the house seem warm when you come back in;))

I've to have my foot elevated above heart level - which makes it even colder as there's even less circulation in it than usual (have poor circulation in my feet at the best of times).....:(

I'm about 25 miles south of Edinburgh so it looks like the cold's pretty much all the way down the east coast......

However, I've just roasted myself in the bath and put on even more layers so am a lot warmer now - fingers crossed it lasts a while:)

We tested it out last week, had one heater in lounge on for two days - well not on constantly but you know what I mean - and it ate about £7 off the meter - simply cannot afford that. Only let it carry on that long as we were having people over for dinner and drinks on the saturday night. Maybe am doing something wrong?!

Boyfriend finished work late so got his sister to buy the heater for us and he's just gone off to collect it now so at least I shall be warm later!!

Had the heating on at 6 this morning woke up to a lovely cosy house, sun shone all day so no need for heat as we are south facing, 24 degrees in conservatory today, put the heating on again at 5 when the sun went down....:DWe are very lucky to get to 20 Oct before we really need the heating on , except for you poor b@ggers in Scotland , it must cost you all a fortune being up there in there in the cold to heat your homes....................
