Justamum - the unit price varies. I'm with e0n and this is the tarriff I'm on which is their online saver no.5
Normal units up to 900 kWhs per year
23.0475 pence
After which Normal units
11.592 pence per kWh
Gas
Normal units up to 2680 kWhs per year
7.75005 pence
After which Normal units
3.37155 pence per kWh
That all looks a bit confusingOurs is just a flat rate. I don't know what gas costs now but 3 1/2 years ago we paid 7.07p a unit. I should imagine it's gone up quite considerably by now!

hey there,
i am gonna really try this year to use as little gas and electric as possible. i currently pay edf £80 per month (for both - 3 bed, mid terrace - no kids) and apparently i am in credit (though customer services are a bit confused as to how much - between £150 - £250)
i can cope fine just me and oh - we can wrap up - but we have 2 cats. does anyone else think it's cruel to not have heating on for them?? - i know, i know they have fur coats! but still - i feel guilty!
also, will i be doing my house any damage by not keeping it warm? like spreading dampness or anything? i know we have to watch out for pipes freezing so would put it on low if there was a chance of that.
sorry to but in - just looking for any hints or tips.

Still off here because its lovely and mild still. I have had all the windows open again today. Was a bit windy still this morning but that has died down now.
I think its meant to get colder as the week goes on but they keep getting it wrong so who knows lol.
I agree with the OP I always have our bedroom window open as I dont like the stuffiness the next morning. Not sure whether we can have it open all winter this year as baby is in with us (and nearer the windows than we are) but we shall see.
Still over 21oC in our bedroom of a night.
If my kiddies are cold/ill then our heating will go on but for now we are all happy that its off.2 adults and 3 children DD (14), DD (12) & DS (10) :smileyhea and 2 mental beagles.

Off, although technically as it is just set to maintain the house at the required temp at certain time points this is just because the house has not got cold enough sonothing to do with decision making (other than the decision when we installed the system as to what temperature we wanted at certain times of day).Start info Dec11

Hi Olivia, I pay £60 a month for both to Scottish Power and like yourself I'm in credit (which is a first for us) I gave them an online metre reading today and plan to do this every month I'm in a gable end house with no kids either (My teenage son is working abroad and I'm missing him very much) I have 2 cats too and they sleep downstairs in the kitchen because the kitten needs to be close to her litter tray but I'm thinking when the weather gets really bad I'm taking them up to the bedroom with their beds and they can get into bed with me if they behave, the young one likes to nibble my hair and ears.:) I check their ears too to make sure they aren't cold periodically. My hubby said to me just recently that the older cat has been ok downstairs in the past when the weather's been bad and the heating isn't on, it's still a worry. I've had dampness appear on bathroom ceiling which is spreading in there caused by condensation from shower, fan and window don't seem to make a difference. We have been gong to bed with bathroom window open,no heating on and it's so cold but I don't have dripping wet windows the next morning. I have had my heating on today just for 2 10 minute blasts since I've come in as it was reading 15 inside and 10 outside, horrible dreich day. If you have radiators put reflective strips at back, I've put a velvet heavy curtain up at front door, put draught excluders round it too as the gaps we're horrendous, plenty of loft insulation too. My mum and dad have just had cavity wall insulation and they are saying what a difference it makes. xI love this place :j:T:j0 -
Mines definately OFF OFF OFF!
Its not cold yet, is it?
and yes cavity wall and extra loft insulation really can make a difference.SPC Nbr.... 1484....£800 Saved £946 in 2013)

Olivia I have two cats and a couple of dogs. Mine get an infa red heat lamp to snuggle under and keep warm. They love the lamp and come rushing when the red light comes on. My dogs both have coats....one wears a fleece indoors too. The cats come to bed with me and snuggle under the covers. I was really discplined about not playing back when they were kittens and so they pretty much know bed is for sleeping in, not playing
Also, if its really bitter, a heat pad or hot waterbottle VERY well wrapped against sharp claws, in the bottom of a cardboard box can be very snuggly warm for cats through the day.0 -
OFF but one of my cats is complaining bitterly!!!! hot water bottles at night and good dressing gowns seem to help !
but the cat disagrees ( except the dressing gown is good to pad on ) !Thank you to all the money savers:beer: for all the wisdom, companionship, bargains, competitions and ideas:T you have made a transformation to our household, Thank you, it would have been so much harder without you and together we are amazing :A:smileyhea0 -
On low because of the relentless, dreary, murky, dank, gloomy, dire, cheerless, godforsaken..... RAIN.0
