Is your heating ON or OFF?

This happened with ours.
Sometimes the pin sticks under the dial, you need to release that slightly.
You know the dial on the radiator that you adjust for the temp, look closely and there is a silver bit just below the dial. You need to unscrew that and the temp dial will lift off.
You will see a little brass pin thing which will probably have become stuck down.
My husband got a flat head screwdriver and just pushed this pin slightly and it lifted up a bit, sometimes they pop up.
Be gentle though as you don't want it to come out, just push it in gently from the side and try to lift it up gently. Once it has risen just put your temp dial back on and screw that silver bit back on.
This happened with all of ours and they are working fine again now.
We do have central heating cover but I found how to do this on the net and is saved getting the engineer out.
When this happened last year we did get the engineer out and he said if it happens again give it a tap with a mallett. Stuff that!
Hope this help.
Guess who forgot about turning the dials on through the summer.
Just had to have a go with a pair of pliers, hammer, screwdriver and a can of wd40 to get a couple of radiators working again.
Didn't want an engineer going into our bedroom to sort the radiator out, we are having a clear out and the place is a tip!
After my husband saying he couldn't get them to work yesterday I was determined to sort it out myself.
I did, but pulled too much on the bathroom radiator pin and it came out, only a drop or two of water escaped though and I managed to get it back in.
The bedroom one, well, that was like something out of a slapstick comedy, a stream of water came shooting out when I managed to pull the pin out of that one. Needless to say the air was blue until I got it back in, luckily it was only a few seconds, that was enough.0 -
Mine is still not on in Cambs. Temperature is around 12c -15c here through the day. I am sat here in a t-shirt now. Hope to keep it off till November.0

Off, but a bit chilly. Will get a hot water bottle, and put on for a few hours later.0

Mine has been on for 30 minutes this morning and will put it on for an hour while the children bath and get into bed.
We intend to be quite frugal with the heating all winter. I'm in the house all day but I can layer up, glove and hat up if necessary. The children have blankets for tv/reading time. The intention is to never have the heating on until 6pm - depends on the children coming in from school - if they're wet and freezing I'll put it on no hesitation.0 -
No, not yet. Been snuggling under a blanket each night.0

Iwas in a neighbours house this evening and she had her heating on and I COULDN`T STAND IT!
I agree. I now find a lot of houses overheated. On a similar note i went a walk round the village in the dark last night, it was a nice evening and I just fancied a walk. I noticed through the windows of houses that lots of people had clothes horses with washing on around the place. Good sign i thought. people not using tumble driers or putting it on radiators, saving energy.
my heating is still off BTW.0 -
Not put the heating on yet though may have to soon. I've put the winter duvet back on the bed and we sit snuggled up on the sofa under fleeces if it feels a bit nippy in the evening. However, I'm finding it more difficult to dry the washing on the maiden now and there was a slight damp smell around it last night.0

Mine is still off and thankfully its stopped raining!
Have managed with a fleecy banket watching TV in the evening but its still warm enough during the day and at night in bed - it does help that I have a fluffy furry friend (dog!) snuggling in with me though!0 -
Just put it on for a couple of hours and then it will be off again about 8.30pmish. Did debate about using the log burner but I am holding off on that for the time being!!Cat, Dogs and the Horses are our fag and beer money

Ours is still off here. It is quite mild still. I was tempted on Saturday when it was much colder and my daughter had a friend to visit but the girls said they were warm enough so it stayed off.
I have found I have adjusted to lower levels of heating and with warm clothes am fine most of the time. I quite often go into work in the winter and think it is hot and someone else walks into the same room and complains they are cold. I really feel the cold and often have a cardigan on in the summer but I still often find it hot at work when other people are moaning. I think it is because I am dressed for the weather and they are not.0
