  • heating off here - it's not really cold ( back door still open for dog to go in and out),

although I did light my stove fire earlier this week but had to let it die down as it was too hot, was really testing it out for the winter, but had my chimney swept this morning and it's all ready to go when the cold weather really sets in

It would be at this point I'd put the heating on. It's not a competition!

Ours was on this evening, but only by accident. Yesterday I put the heating on in the evening, but when I switched it off I accidentally put it to 'timed' so it came on again this evening. It's gone off again now though. Today isn't as freezing as it has been - it's ok in our house as long as the wind isn't blowing off the sea straight through the gaps in front door :(

I'd love to, but I think it's just me, everyone else is ok. :(

Temp in house last night was 15 For the last 3 nights we've went to bed with the bathroom window open:eek: I went to bed with 2 hot water bottles, socks, jammies and the dressing gowns on top of what is supposed to be a 15 tog duvet :(. The condensation problem is much better with window open overnight, they were dripping every morning. I've still to buy anti-mould paint for bathroom ceiling have sprayed it again with Dettol mould and mildew cleaner. Away to have a cuppa coffee, keep warm and snug x

It would help the condensation problem and the mould if you can afford a little more heating. 15c is really very low.

The risk of strokes and heart attacks are increased below 16c, the ideal temperature for health in a living room is 18-21c. Maybe you could try to raise the temperature of the room you are in a few degrees without going overboard.

However I don't know your situation and sometimes what would be best isn't possible. We all have to do what we can with what we have sadly.

    Off here :)
I really really need to make it to November and then i have 2 fan heaters which i found a little cheaper to run last winter than the GCH, i simply cannot be putting £30 on the gas every week just to have a summer feeling house all winter long. I refuse to go back to having any sort of debt after years of spending life with that cloud over me, since i moved our finances have changed.

The only thing i am finding is i sometimes need to finish washing off in the tumble dryer and bedding will now be dried only in the tumble dryer due to space

The fleece pj's and blankets have come out here, along with bedsocks and dressing gowns.
Its reading 14 in hallway tonight but im sure its not that cold so will look for a new room thermometer
    Debt free

Many people are very wary of running up high heating bills and quite rightly so. Quite often it isn't neccessary to heat the whole house.
It isn't difficult to keep the room you are in at a healthy temperature without ruining your finances. My elderly mother manages it on £16 a month DD for gas, but she only heats the room she is in.

She puts on her room heater downstairs as soon as she gets up, she uses a fan heater to warm the bathroon quicky but just long enough to complete her ablutionsand get dressed in there. By the time she is dressed the living room is warm. She keeps a small oil radiator on the lowest setting all day in the downstairs loo.

An hour before bedtime she puts the heater on in the bedroom and her electric blanket to pre warm the bed. She turns it all off when she goes to bed.
Her house is never below 19c, but only in the room she is in.
  • Off here as we keep the living room door shut all day and close the curtain across the front door quite early. We have an open ish plan house and find that once we have finished cooking the dinner in the over, it warms up the living room lovely so much so that it's now 23.5 degrees and nice and warm - DH is sat in a t-shirt.

However, hallway at about 18 degrees and our bedroom is 15 degrees (DH likes the room cold and it gives me a great excuse for a cuddle!) :D

DD's room stay quite warm as they either side of the airing cupboard.

Must have been a cold day though as both cat's were in all day, alseep on the sofa - mind you one of them hasn't moved all day!!!!
