Is your heating ON or OFF?

ashamed to admit that my heating went on yesterday morning quickly and yesterday evening for a short time - just to get the children out of and then into bed. Feeling it this morning though, so today I'm going to get fluffy socks and slippers for the 3 of us (hubby wouldn't wear them, so not wasting my cash!) and will tell the children to put dressing gowns and slippers on every morning and evening. Am at home during the day, but am determined NOT to have the heating on just for me - will just put jumpers on and keep busy.Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Considering foster parenting. Hints and tips on saving £ always well received. Xx
March 1st week £80 includes a new dog bed though £63 was food etc for the week.0 -
hi
just wonder how many of you have put the heating on yet i was going to wait untill november but my 7 year old dd woke me up at 430 this morring saying she was cold i swear i saw steam coming from her mouth so i got up and put it on the house was cold though and my ds has woken up a few time durring the night to (his only two) i now wonder if it was because he was cold to
We even had the heating on in July0 -
My heating is still off at the moment I only put it on as and when needed and not on an automatic timer. My water heating goes on for two hours every morning which heats up a tankful of water and although I have an electric fire in my sitting room its not been swithched on for over three years.I have just done a price comparison for my projected costs for the coming year and the best they could come up with was a reduction of £5.37 per year on my existing costs. My combined projected costs for the coming year were £444.47 which I don't think is too bad.I have found since only puting my heating on for an hour as and when its needed to take the chill off I have saved an awful lot against how much I used to spend. My house had a new modern bolier fitted 4 years ago and I have extra loft insulation plus wall insulation.True I live in a fairly small house so its cheap to run and I am never cold Its down to and extra cardi and thick slipper if its a bit nippy and a blanket over my knees if I'm watching t.v. and it gets a bit chilly. But growing up during the austerity perion of the post war we never had heating throughout the house it was one fire in the sitting room and that was it .I suppose its what you get used to.Last winter if it got too cold I just put an extra duvet on the bed and dug out my hot water bottle .I am lucky that my house is mid terrace and has relatively few if any draughts .I changed my outside front door two years ago from a wooden one to a double glazed on and it made such a difference0

I'm another one who was brought up with one coal fire in the house and that was it. I mind my mum hanging up blankets at the windows as we lived on a hill. Here, we are very lucky. The stove heats the radiators and the water - so for us its one bill for coal that does everything, heats the whole house and gives constant boiling hot water. But if I had electric heating I wouldn't heat bedrooms, not with only adults in the house. Our back boiler sprung a leak and we have no fire for a month. We are sitting on top of a calor gas heater and having tiny warm baths. So I desperately miss my coal fire. Will appreciate it when it goes back on - it was on 24/7 all year round.0

Still not on here. My feet were a bit chilly when going to bed though, so I kept my slipper booty things on. True to form, I woke up in the middle of the night way too hot and kicked them off, along with the duvet! lolFebruary wins: Theatre tickets0

Turned the oil boiler off again - using the woodburner on chilly evenings though.0

Still no heating on. House seems fine although I did swap the summer 4.5tog to the winter 13.5tog down duvet last night. My goodness was I snuggly warm!
Weather is fierce here today, gales and rain. Lovely.:rotfl:0 -
No heating here yet, I did put the fluffy sheets and duvet covers on at the weekend but still only got the Summer quilt on yet.. I've got doors and windows open every day as its still quite warm here... I'm determined not to put it on till October and hopefully November.. trouble is OH is a cold morsel and I know our 'heating on' battle will start any day now.. I have a slanket ready to throw at him if he dares say "bit chilly in here "..lol#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Still off here. I have looked at the average temps fr the uk. if I put it on now it will be on until May. April has the same average temp as November. So it is still relatively warm. I hope to keep it off until Nov. warm clothing, layers, hot drinks, extra bedding and so on is the way forward. I am aiming at 18 degrees this winter downstairs and cooler upstairs. This is less than previous winters but I think more healthy as it encourages be to be more active rather than sit around all day doing nothing.0
