I haven't put mine on and won't until I really need to - partly because of being tight but also because I can easily manage without it if I make a few changes. I have been feeling chilly between about 7pm and 8pm and have been tempted to put it on for an hour or so. Today I realised that it was just before I drew the curtains that I felt a bit cold so I closed them earlier and now feel fine - I think it's just a case of being aware that the seasons are changing and small adjustments need to be made. I'm OK in a T shirt if I'm doing something but surfing/watching telly I need a shawl or a long sleeve top as well.

I agree with the poster who said it's harder to turn it off once it's been turned on and try to treat each day individually - it's neither consistently warm nor consistently cold here.

Can afford to put the heating on but am just too outraged by the weather to submit to it! It's August d@mn it! AUGUST! Must confess, I did look longingly at the fire this afternoon for a few moments but I mercilessly crushed that weakness.

My iron will did falter this morning when I put a pair of thermal socks on...THERMAL SOCKS...IN AUGUST.

Oooooh, the rage keeps me warm.

    :hello:
  • The heating came on automatically from the thermostat, so I altered the thermostat and we are using the stove to keep the living room warm. All the doors are shut and the curtains are closed. The kitchen tends to get warm over tea time and then we move after we have done the washing up.

I would like to save money on the central heating as gas seems to be going up an enormous amount over the next few months.

No heating on will try to hold off until the end of october. However I have my fluffy slippers and my fleece hoody on as it is a tad chillyQ Don't mind the chilly nights as I like a cold bedroom. I am hoping as I am returning to work the heating will be on less, I am sure the furry dog will be fine! Sad I am worrying about the dog being cold!!

I am interested in whether people are not putting their heating on because they cant afford it or just because they think its too early? I would fall into the first category but we have been using an oil radiator on very low in the living room for the past couple of evenings.

Went round to our friends for a BBQ yesterday and even sitting in our coats everyone was shivering so we ended up indoors. I wearing a long sleeved t-shirt, jumper, cardigan and jeans and I am not exactly toasty! As my SIL said today its going to be a bloomin long winter if it stays as cold as this!

Ours isn't on because we don't feel cold, DS still sat in shorts and tshirt and bare feet and I have my summer slippers on.

    Know what you mean.
I'm another who is lucky enough to be able to afford to put it on but won't.
Why should I pay those greedy power companies any more of my money.
Last night was very chilly but we just put on another top and used throws and we were fine.
The bed though was freezing when we got in and tonight if its so cold the electric blanket is going on to take the chill off before we get in.
OH wanted to put the fire on but I would'nt let him, despite just having had a new more efficient fire fitted in June ready for the coming winter.
He'll just have to wait a bit longer :rotfl:.
Oh and my thermal socks went on last night too.

    A bit of both really.
I could afford to put it on but that would take money away from other things.
I prefer to use layers, socks etc before putting it on.

I just think it's too early. Our gas and electric is included in our rent price (up to a limit), which we've never gone over despite putting the heating on whenever we like.

TBH though, we are lucky as we are in a roof conversion, and we're convinced that we get a lot of heat from downstairs (our neighbours), so don't need to put it on all that much (unless it's -13 outside!).

Plus, it also gets stupidly hot in our apartment on warmer days, so I'm quite enjoying it being a bit cooler to be honest. It's nice to be able to sit comfortably in my clothes, rather than having to strip off and STILL feel way too hot.

Slipper booties - I'm 28 and have a pair which I love! I got them from Millets last year (of course, can't find them on their site now that I've looked! lol). OH seems to think they're cute! :D They are on my Birthday/Christmas wish list for this year as I have worn them so much, the soles are wearing out. I did find a site that does something similar, called Cottage Socks. And, I have some other slipper booties, which have heat pads in them to help warm my feet up after coming in from the cold and snow. :D (Mum got them for me from Boots last year)

I've also added some boring sounding things to my wishlist this year, including a balaclava, thermal socks and a snood! lol. I am determined not to be so cold out and about this year!

  • OOOh, it's a lovely morning here in Worcestershire. The sun's shining and my mood has lifted! Got the washing blowing on the line and all's well with the world.

Anyway, the way I'm going, my stomach will keep my knees warm this winter when I'm sitting down:rotfl:
