Is your heating ON or OFF?

My heating is still off and I would like to hold off until the end of October but I think I will have to wait and see what mother nature has in store for us this year. Its not too awful here in Essex, bit of a chill to the air and am actually wearing socks and a cardigan for a change lol.
We always turn the heating part of our boiler off over the summer even though the thermostat is turned down to 0. Its just something we have always done.
I have just washed my LO's winter coats as I think they might need them sooner rather than later.
Am not looking forward to how much this years heating bill will be and am hoping the cost doesnt go up any more.2 adults and 3 children DD (14), DD (12) & DS (10) :smileyhea and 2 mental beagles.

Hi Everyone
Our heating is well and truly off, partly due to the fact the EON (fixed rate) have projected (based on what we used last year) our monthly bill has risen to £158 from £91.00. YIKEES!
I went out yesterday and bought our 3 year old a cosy housecoat, he wouldn't wear it last year, but he is also feeling it as i am desperately trying not to use it. So that when its really cold we can have it on.
We replaced all our radiators, heating system and put in a top of the range boiler in 2008, so god help us if we hadnt.
I definitely feel the autumn in the air the last week.

Ours is off, although I confess I would have given in on the odd occasion by now if I could. Unfortunately we're on oil and just can't afford to top it up so no choice at the moment. I'm HOPING we can afford to get some by October but it's not looking hopeful at the moment. I'm going to get a new hot water bottle though!0

I'm going to wait until it's really winter before I light my fire. I love a real fire, but the only problem is that if I light it during the day when it's really cold, then the afternoon warms up somewhat you can't switch the fire off!0 -
Heating off for me. Its ironic really, had a major op two weeks ago and was pretty much in bed for the first week and the weather was gorgeous, so hot with the sun blaring through the curtains, now I am finally getting up and being able to move about its getting cold and miserable. I try and do a few bits in the morning and then get tucked up on the sofa with a fluffy blanket in the afternoon. Pretty rubbish really when its still August!Dont wait for your boat to come in 'Swim out and meet the bloody thing'0

Blimey, it isn't as warm here as it's been, but I certainly wouldn't consider it cold !!
When I nipped out in the car earlier it said 15 degrees, so hardly freezing, I will admit I have put on long sleeves today instead of just a tee shirt, but still only a cotton top.
I want to leave my heating off as long as possible this year, but my elderly Mother is coming to stay tomorrow for a week, so I might have to relent. Psychologically it will be harder to stop using it, than to delay starting IYKWIMI try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0 -

I am interested in whether people are not putting their heating on because they cant afford it or just because they think its too early? I would fall into the first category but we have been using an oil radiator on very low in the living room for the past couple of evenings.
Went round to our friends for a BBQ yesterday and even sitting in our coats everyone was shivering so we ended up indoors. I wearing a long sleeved t-shirt, jumper, cardigan and jeans and I am not exactly toasty! As my SIL said today its going to be a bloomin long winter if it stays as cold as this!0 -
neither, I'm not putting on my heating as I don't need it. At 2am this morning, don't ask! it was 19C in living-room and 15.6C in bedroom with windows open.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -
