Is your heating ON or OFF?

We don't really turn ours off. It's set to 20 degrees cent. in our hallway, with the radiator there being an open open one. When the house drops below that temperature the heating will pop on. We do have the radiators turned off in most of the rooms though, so if the heating does nip on, the whole house isn't getting heated. We have 3 open radiators, the hall, bathroom and small toilet. These are all on an exposed outside wall. We keep our living room one on low, and our bedroom one on, which is a downstairs room, with three exposed outside walls, and its freezing in there in the winter. The summer is good though :-) because the main exposed wall gets sunhine on it (when it's sunny !!!) all day. This year I've told our household, the heating will have to stay low, because of the price rise, and they'll have to start wearing sweaters and not t shirts around the house lol :-)

Had to put the heating on for an hour last night, and it's still August! Can't make a habit of that! Made the excuse that I was finishing off the clothes festooning the radiators which didn't dry outside yesterday.:(
C'mon now, get an extra layer on, we CAN'T give in yet! Still hoping for an Indian summer...:):):)The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.
Thanks to everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum. I'm very grateful for the guidance and friendliness that I always receive from you.

I'm going to turn it on just now. It's another miserable day here - pouring with rain and dark. I don't think i've seen the sun for about 5 days!0

Same here, i'm still paying the gas bill from last winter. I simply can't afford to heat up the house at its Victorian. That's why when the heating comes on only when it is really necessary.
I'm just hoping we don't have ice on the the inside of the windows in late October again, yes shockingly we did, stupid bathroom.
This year door curtains, more fleeces, hot water bottles, thermals, basically anything we get our hands on. I've even bought a camping kettle in the case the blooming electric cuts off again. Not my idea of fun when the house loses all heat, snow still falling, in the black winter for six hours or more straight.
Me and JenniO last year were laughing about me her in our respective hosues all dressed up in full length coats , hats and gloves in the house, while the children where at school!. Minus 13 outside and my heating was on 13 or less degrees to stop the pipes form freezing.
We ended up living in the middle room or standing by the oven when it was on. as the these rooms had the most heat.
On the other we including the kids are used to the cold and when they go to my families they can't deal with it, because its too hot!
I'm not saying don't be careful with gas / electric etc, i just please don't get to the point where your suffering. too many people inc children were in hospital with hypothermia last year.0 -
Well I wrestled with myself last night over the heating - didn't put it on in the end but it was chilly. I watched telly in flannelette PJs and a fleecy blanket with a pair of socks on. The dog even cuddled up for a while! You can tell when its colder because he sleeps on the bed - in the "summer" he's on the bedroom floor but as soon as it gets colder he commando crawls up the bed when he thinks I'm asleep. So animals are feeling the change too.
I looked at sheepskin slipper booties on ebay yesterday - I must be getting old! (I'm 39!:rotfl:)0 -
It is much cooler today in West Yorkshire but I don't feel cold. Not sure the washing will dry and it is quite dark and miserable. I too am still paying off last winters bill, despite us using less gas and them putting the price up.

Its technically colder here too, central south, but feels less cold to me. No wind and quite cloudy....not great drying weather, but I'm putting the wasing out regardess. This is a washing week.....five days forecast to be dry...and colder weather on the way....everyhing that can be washed will be in preparation for weeks when less easy to dry stuff...so sofa throws etc will go in this week once I've cleared the clothes today. drying outside really helps with heating as its not mosture you need to dry out of the house for mould or for a nasty cold dank atmosphere.0 -
My heatings off at the moment but I have put it on for an hour or so in the past week when it's gotten chilly, what I normally do is curl up on the armchair with the quilt off the single bed over me,added bonus to this is it gives Daisy Cat somewhere to sleep on so her claws dont wreck the leather.0

Most definitely off. Its lovely, and warm where I live. Just had the odd few days of drizzle, but wrapped up then.0
