With me its because I cant afford to have the heating on much. I am lighting the fire to dry the washing but am not doing a load every day. in fact I am trying to wash every second or third day because then I can restrict the fire lighting and hopefully on alternate days the residual heat in the house will help somewhat.

I am interested in whether people are not putting their heating on because they cant afford it or just because they think its too early? I would fall into the first category but we have been using an oil radiator on very low in the living room for the past couple of evenings.

Went round to our friends for a BBQ yesterday and even sitting in our coats everyone was shivering so we ended up indoors. I wearing a long sleeved t-shirt, jumper, cardigan and jeans and I am not exactly toasty! As my SIL said today its going to be a bloomin long winter if it stays as cold as this!

Um, for me it's both. I think that although I can't bear to be cold it's too early. I'd rather put extra layers on now and then feel the benefit when it starts to get really cold. Also, I do try to keep the cost down as much as possible. Oh, and I really hate the way the house feels with the CH on. I always tend to feel "cack" as soon as it goes on even though we don't have it whacked up high or on all day.

For me its too early I think, it is still August (only just I know) but I just cant bring my self too, psychologically it just seems so wrong when it still suppose to be summer, albeit it nearing the end! Having said that I suppose also if I put CH on now, the credit I've built up over the year on my D/Debit wont then cover my winter bills.... I would rather save putting it on until I really need too, until then I am covering up with a fluffy blanket. Might be time to break the warmer duvet out soon on the bed too.

i havent got my heatin on because I think it is too early, I havent been too cold but have used my slanket when watching tv last night

I am the only one in this house who is feeling the cold, but it isnt as cold tonight as it is most nights

I was paying £82 for my gas and elelctric and Eon was going to lower to £57 per month but I have asked them to increase to £90 so that I can put the heating on without worrying

both..its too early, and ....there is room for layers first, but I am cold sometimes. and too afford it means making choices we don't want to make. Now, we are luckier than many, we have a good income and don';t have the awful eat or heat choice, but the more we put aside the sooner the house will be upto a better standard, and easier to heat. I resent spending on something that we don't get to keep or see or have a longer term benefit from especially at the price it is.
  • Weather forecast reckons it's warming up at the end of the week...oh I DO hope so!
We've been having the CH on for an hour mid morning and an hour late afternoon. Fortunately we've got cavity wall insulation and the house seems to hold the heat. Plus, thermostats are off in all rooms except the lounge (and we keep the door shut as much as poss).
    Normal people worry me.

It's too early and we can't afford it. I've got one of those suggy things, that my son brought me for a joke. But it back fired. i love it (and so does the cat) it's the best thing ever. Arms warm while drinking coffee/wine and u can hide the remote cause it has a pouch.

I've held out as long as possible to put the light on tonight

Both for me,it's far to early and i need to keep it of as long as poss.last winter it didn't go on till nov them it was only for short periods. We shut the curtains early and burnt tealight and pillar candles ,amasing how warm it got the room. This year we are going to have to try and use the CH even less ,i'm being made redundant at the end of Dec so goodness knows how we will manage.Thankfully my home is well insulated,i'm glued to the preparing for winter thread trying to get as many tip's as i can to help.Lets all hope the hard winter thats been predicted dosn't happen.

    ... August heating fail.

OH made a fire for me when I got home from work. I am officially toasty. But does this still count as a fail if the coal was left over from last year?

But the CH won't go on for a while I hope. We delay putting on the CH for economy, but also the OH is Scottish and military so I think it's a hormonal thing.
