Is your heating ON or OFF?

I've been away for several days. Got back yesterday afternoon and the house felt cold. Last night I was adding layers of clothes but was still cold and gave in and put the heating on. Had been determined to keep it off till at least mid October. Dreading the winter...:(0

I think for those of using forms of heat other than CH then yes it does. Partly because all fuel is a ''currency'' or costs money and partly because its not fair to those suffering in cold environments ''alone'' if we say we're fine with no central heating when we have another form of heat.
For me the heating IS the woodburner, so it definitely counts0 -

I haven't put the heating on yet but it has been much chillier over the last few days. I can't leave it on all the time at a low temperature to kick in itself because it's at least 30 years old and doesn't have a temperature thermostat, it's just got a dial numbered 1-4 on the actual boiler. I have it set at number 2 (haven't a clue what temperature that would be) and just switch it on manually as and when needed. We do have a timer so once the cold weather really sets in I set it for a couple of hours in the morning & evening and over-ride it during the day if it's cold. OH has a few medical problems so I'm not going to risk his health, even if it means cutting back on other things I will so I can have the heating on for him.
One thing I would advise, even for those that don't want to put their heating on yet, is switch it on for a quick blast just to check it's working! Quite a few people get caught out every year, they hold back until it gets really cold then when they go to switch the heating on they find it's broken! Definitely worth having a test run now to see if there's any problems.Dum Spiro Spero0 -
Thanks Anguk That's a great idea and one I wouldn't thought of. It can take ages to get DOI (Defence estate) to actually come out and sort things out.....as heating isn't a priority:mad: so at least if I check now I am prepared!:TCan I ever learn this budgeting lark? So far it's not looking promising

I have just had to put my heating, I am so cold and miserable, got warm gear on but still cold and my dogs are shivering, no point being miserable and cold when the alternative is at my fingertips. You live..You learn.:)0

Well I returned home yesterday to find that OH had whacked the heating up to 23!! Pffff! Was way too warm!
It was chilly yesterday, but nothing that a long pair of trousers and a jumper wouldn't have sorted. He complained he was cold, but was sat there in shorts and a T-shirt!!February wins: Theatre tickets0 -
I've been using the gas fire in the sitting room today and yesterday.
Unfortunately we're losing the gas fire (it's part of the ancient back boiler that's being replaced next month), so we'll only have the new boiler and the radiators under the windows. Now I'm assured heating performance will improve and we won't need the gas fire any more, but are the new boilers really that good? I'm worried about using more gas too if we don't have the radiant fire and have to reply on the boiler which has a much bigger gas burner and is designed to heat the whole house. Has anyone else here replaced their back boiler and fire front with a modern boiler and found it better or worse regarding how warm they are indoors and the gas bills?0
