We build up in stages to putting the heating on:D
Socks & cardigan gets worn, then fleeces etc.
Heating normally goes on around the end of oct til the beginning of march.
We set the thermostat for 16 degrees & leave it on.Try to be a rainbow in someone's cloud.0 -
i only have storage heaters in my place - and they are not efficient at all as well as very expensive to run - and i can't afford to have it on this time of year (skint and on key) so mine will stay off until after the first heavy frost - i am quite slim yet buy oversized clothes just so i can wear several layers at a time
i am hoping that the housing association will upgrade the heating system somewhen - they have asked my neighbours about their heating (but i was out the day they called round) so i think i will call them tomorrow to discuss optionssaving money by growing my own - much of which gets drunk
made loads last year :beer:0 -
Not given in as yet, but can,t beleive its so chilly so early in the year.
We,re right down south, and try not to give into central heating till we absolutly ahve to, but we do have a woodburner,(not used so far) and although the garden looks like steptoes yard, we have been building up wood stores all year, lots of people having tree work done and not wanting the wood, so they got their wood cleared and we,ve got a massive wood store, did share with neighbor as they,ve just had a little,un and are trying to save too.Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

The expensive part of this style of heating is when users leave the output at maximum all day and the heat runs out at around 7pm when you need it the most. You then turn the convector on which then costs 30p or more per hour to run.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

I can recommend a new combi boiler - know they are dear but we have saved about 50% on the bills since it was put in last year (Oct) our bills were getting to be well over the 1,000 for the year, now its around 600 this year, :jBetter to light a candle than to curse the darkness. :beer:0

We've been chilly for the past few days, and last night were so cold we had big socks and jumpers, blanket, and the duvet off our bed! And we were snuggled like penguins!
So, last night we put on one of the storage heaters in the living room. Got up this morning to a chilly flat, with 1 haven of warmth. It's still set on lowest output as well, so should have enough juice left for when it gets chilly again later...
I think some people are being a bit harsh on this thread - if you can manage with just a blanket or whatever, or if it is still warm where you live, then good for you. You're lucky! No need to get high and mighty with others so aren't so fortunate...Feb GC: £197 :T / £320 Feb £5 a day challenge: £ / £145

I'm feeling a littl chilly today... but am not going to consider putting on the heating until the middle of October and then will try to hold out until I get back from holiday in December:eek:
But like Babyshoes, I grew up in a warm climate so feel the cold so I don't know how successful I wll be.Man plans and God laughs...Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.0 -
I've just put our heating on for an hour, it's very chilly here today!Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0

Well the heating isn't on yet, but i do admit to putting the CH (as that's our only form of heating) on for a couple of hours on Saturday.
A mixture of too many wet clothes, rain and being cold.
the kids (in fact all of us ) are wearing jackets / cardi's in the house already.
But it will come on when it the temperature drops below 15.5 automatically or its cold, the clothes need drying etc
We live in a very poorly heated house, any heat flows out, so its a case of paying the bill. The heating is on a timer and as a temperature control timer in case the it does drop below the amount i've set it at.
There's no point given yourself hypothermia or boasting of how little heating you use. the temperature variations, especially in this country are crazy. In the north were about 5 degrees colder than the south with out wind! The main thing is to keep warm so that you don't end up in hospital.0
