    It's 12:30am. The temperature now is 18 deg C inside the house (upstairs bedroom). The window is open slightly. I'm warm. Why are we talking about heating now. Mine will be off till it gets under 12 deg C inside at night. That's about 5 deg C outside at night and 12 deg C outside during the day. Last year that was the 20th October then again 25th October, the 7,8 and 9th November and from the 14th November onwards till the 20th March and a bit more was needed on the 26th and 27th March.

    Because we don't all live in your house, or in the same area with the same weather?

  • Variables that come into play regarding heating:

    * local micro climate variation
    * type of housing
    * level of insulation in property
    * terraced, detached, semi-detached, end-of-terrace, flat ( on which floor etc)
    * amount of heat seeping from neighbour properties
    * individual cold tolerance which may be greatly influenced by health/fitness/mobility/age issues

    Everyone's circumstances are different, please heat your homes to the extent you are able, as needed. This is not a competition, there are no prizes for hypothermia :D Love that you mention various forms of heating Frugal, but guarantee you will have folks boasting they aren't using heating in January, just the coal fires/ stove/ electric fire etc but not the CH :rotfl:

    It isn't too bad here yet - got a blanket over my legs, warm pj bottoms with a long sleeved top and slippers, but no need for heating. Windows sometimes closed this past week, but open more often than not. I grew up in a warm climate so really feel the cold, but do try to put on warm clothing before putting on the heating. Hoping to get to the end of September before needing heating, but if I am cold before then it will go on!
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!
  • It is warm here - around 19/20 and it is night! I'm hoping we won't have to put the heating on until November. This place is all electric so we aren't looking foward to needing the heating on later in the year.

    Warm here too. The heating will stay off until even wearing fleeces, warm socks, and fingerless gloves isn't enough to keep warm.

    We have a Baxi in the the kitchen that usually comes on first before the rads in our house. ( we didnt count that as heating on lst yr;)).
    Will try to hold out though the forecast looks bleak for tuesday.

    My heating was on for an hour on Friday as it was so damp and chilly. I will turn mine on as and when as Im disabled, at home and have incredibly poor circulation.
    I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
    Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
    I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
    When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
  • CH wont be on at all this winter - been quoted just shy of 1k to fill the oil tank :eek:

    We have a panel heater that we will use in my sons room - he is profoundly disabled and needs the room to be heated, but other than that we are relying on an open fire and as much free wood as we can get our mitts on. We did buy quite a bit of coal for a silly price when Focus were closing down and I'm hoping we can stretch that to last most of winter.

    Hoping to get through to beginning of November (at least) before we have to use the fire, though.

    Good grief. Still managing with a bedspread & sheet here. Not cold at all.

    Good for you.

    Many people don`t have well insulated homes, don`t have solar gain, may be poorly, cannot afford to eat well etc etc so yes they will feel the cold more and for them and those who live north, then yes it is cold

    I am one of the lucky ones, I live in a very well insulated eco house. Solar gain plus shading, keeps the house at a comfortable temperature 24 hours a day without heating and in fact (honestly) just a candle will keep a room warm.

    I worry about my children in their homes and bought slankets for each of them in the sales last spring. A cold winter will hit them hard financially and I hope also to be able to give them all a little money to help this year as our heating bills are so low. I am all right jack, what a horrible expression
