Our didnt go on until November last year. BUT it does seem a bit colder this year in August! I am hoping for November again although if we do manage to get a new boiler within budget we may have it on earlier as it will not cost as much. All ifs and buts at the moment.

Keep reading on FB that friends who live near me are cold and putting heating on and I currently have my ceiling fan on as i am too hot! I do have my sister staying so house is full so that may be why its so hot!!! lol

GCH will be off until we are not able to keep warm enough whist wearing thermals and jumpers indoors.

Coal fire in the living room should take the chill off in the evenings if not quite cold enough for GCH.

Due to yet another increase in gas prices, I'm hoping it's not needed till November but time will tell.
  • Mine probably won't go on until I return back from Spain which is around late October.

The two gas fires need their annual checks and clean-up which I will use the payday on October 28th to get this checked out. If it does get colder, I've a good electric heater which will warm up the front room in an hour and switch it off.

Well I too also managed to hold off putting the GCH on in November last year. I don't think I will be able to repeat it this year. I have noticed a big difference in temp dropping over the last week and have been wandering around the flat with a few layers on. On that thought I am off to dig out my slanket for a freshen up wash ready for use.....

I am lucky that I was able to have a new boiler fitted earlier this year which is apparently up 50/60% more efficient than my old one so despite the price rises, I shouldn't feel them too much... I hope...

    I've been Money Tipped!
I was die hard last year, but now the failing boiler has failed. I've been ''weaker'' this august, have had woodburner on three times already, than I was some of last winter.

    Hi Frugal,

Our heating is still off, although we do have to put it on for an hour (with all the radiators turned off) every morning for hot water as it's much cheaper than using the immersion heater.

We have an existing thread on this topic so I'll add this thread to it later to keep the replies together.

  • I had to put my proper wool cardi on tonight (although it was only over a T shirt) ....... I've been dreading this thread. Hopefully we can last out until half term in October cos I don't mind DH and I being cold but I don't want the family to suffer.
This time I haven't smoked since 6th Jan 2014 and still going ok.
    Fingers crossed x

Good grief. Still managing with a bedspread & sheet here. Not cold at all.

  • Today has been the coldest, but I'm a bit warm blooded anyway and my quilt which is on my bed all year round does the trick. This is the first night in a while I'll wear a vest/t-shirt as opposed to sleeping shirtless.
