  • We've had snow last week and it was pretty cold. It's mild again now, about 8c today. It'll get colder at the end of the week.

If it stays mild like this I'll hardly ever have the heating on,which suits me fine.I've got visitors this Christmas,so I'll put it on then and maybe the day before,to warm up the house.I wouldn't want them to be cold, and then hopefully off again for most of the time.

I have altered sensation in my legs and often have a hot feeling on the front of my legs, which also keeps me feeling cosy.;)

still cold here and lots of snow which shows no sign of shifting. Am sitting here with my hot water bottle and 2 fleece blankets but hands very cold for typing. Have 1 bar of my superser on to keep the chill off as its very hard to find someone with gas at the mo but i can still just see my breath but it is an improvement compared to some days.
My mum was lucky to get oil delivered but they have put the price of oil up from 40p a litre to about 65p so her delivery will cost about £650:eek:. So the winter fuel payment wont help her much. She lives in an old large house and even with CH her house is still freezing. She also has a coal fire and a woodburner but it goes through fuel like fun. Never mind it wont last forever (fingers crossed). Hope everyone is well and warmish xx

Just read your post.Do you have any fingerless gloves? They can really help.I use mine a lot.

    Take care x
  • It has been extremely cold here in north Yorkshire lately. -9C this morning when I came home from work (I work nights) and my car even registered -15C one morning about 2 weeks ago. I have been leaving my heating on at 10C whilst I am out because I don't want any frozen or burst pipes or a dead dog. Whilst I begrudge using gas to heat an empty house I think it is far too cold to risk the trauma of a burst pipe or freezing my dog. I live in a detached house so I have no neighbours to help keep me warm.
  • Yeah, I am in N Yorkshire too and this weather is just getting ridiculous. Came back from the supermarket at 3pm and the car thermometer said -7, dont know what it is out there now. We are on oil heating and I dread to think how much we are using, even with the heating on and the fire lit the house isnt exactly boiling.

I suspect we are all going to be at home a lot over Christmas as well, darent venture too far because the roads are so icy. Oh well at least there is plenty of alcohol in the house which should warm me up if nothing else!

Well the boiler has decided to stop firing up, although can hear the whooshing sound.

It did this before but had sorted itself by the time an engineer got here.

So we have no ch or hot water from the ch.

We do have a coal fire and an immersion for hot water.

Will ring in the morning, luckily it is covered on a service plan, but it will just be how long it takes for them to get here

  • Up north, this is an electric only (scots hydro electric), 3 bedroomed household, and Im currently paying £30 per week in total in electricity-more than usual, but im not sure if this is the average or not when comparing to others, north or south of the border? Ive never made comparisons for working out how much I should really be paying, but made sure that all rooms not in use dont have the vents open, and try not to use it until the evenings, but this isnt easy when it gets cold quick. The heating dial is usually set to 60-70, which Im assuming is in fahrenheit!.. setting it to anything less and it hardly comes on at all, so am forced to turn it up. coldest around -3 out there tonight.. how much is everyone roughly paying for their home in electric, esp if it includes heating? thanks

I am paying about the same £30- 35 for combined gas and electric as we have gas heating. Scandalous, but it's so cold I can't bear it without the heating on.

If it is in any way warmish I turn it down as low as I can bear, but at -11C here last night that wasn't happening. Longing for a mild spell and rain... Oh how I would love rain right now.
