On at 50 all the time still atm. Still waking up with ice on the inside of windows and the loo was frozen again this morning. We're leaving the heating on low for pipes, but just trying to keep the sitting room warm while DH is home. We got the whole house warm yesterday for family here, and the cold feels much worse today because of being so warm yesterday.
we're forecast a thaw this week, but having had overnight temps of -14 and -17 in the balmy south of the country I'm really concerned about people living in more northern parts of the country. I'm also thinking that its about now it usually gets really cold, so concerned about what the net month will bring.
My main issue now is I'd like to do some laundry but its so cold and still I don't think anything will dry on the line, despite it being a beautiful day!0 -
My heating is on but at 10 Degrees to stop my pipes freezing again and to keep the chill off in the rooms but i have just lit a wood fire. I have used 250litres of oil since December 15th:eek: and since the price is doubled in the past few weeks i really need to start conserving it. The farm down the road is selling wood at £2.50 a big sack so i will be going there later on to stock up :TGrocery Challenge - Jan £4.42/£200.00
Up my income - £124.00/ £11,000.0 -

Our heating is on 24/7 and on high because of the water pipes. We've had two days where the pipes froze and had go be thawed but thankfully nothing has burst.
We're heating the loft with a fan heater and have the hatch open all the time - it's subtropical hereWe're walking around in t-shirts and shorts and feeling all stuffy because the heatings on all night. Who would have thought we'd have been moaning about the heat during this, the coldest winter it seems, since records began *rolleyes*
The earliest the plumber can come out is 4th Jan (after his initial assessment), he thinks some pipes running under the flat roof may not be lagged and so will have to go through the bathroom ceiling - replastered last year  - to lag them, otherwise we'll have this problem every year it's this cold.
Still, at least no burst pipes (feel very lucky there) and we don't have to worry about the dogIt's the first year we've ever had problems with the pipes which were installed with the new boiler about 8 years ago. I'm looking forward to next week when the temperature looks like it's going above zero and we can at least turn the heating down.
