I'm on the second or third lot in wiltshire, it almost all went before last night just left in patches, but now its nicely dusted again! This morning it was snowing but also windy, which was lifting it off the barn roofs and blowing it on me like great blizzards

My house is on a hill and the study overlooks a big valley. We must have had about a foot of snow last night. Its suddenly just hit me how many of the houses I can see have snow melting off their roofs. While some others still have a huge thick layer covering theirs. A stark reminder of the benefit of loft insulation. Wonder if the occupants of these houses realise how much heat (and their money) is floating out their roof.

we have a white bit and a tile coloured bit. We moved here in July and knew we had to to it all, but work hasn't started yet, because planning hasn't finished. We actually have to re roof, so it will all be done then, but I'm really conscious of it.

n.b. the bits that are well isulated are insulated with bales of straw probably out up there when the roof was last done...poorly... decades ago.

Please will you stop doing this on this thread :(

Most people who do not have their heating on have different priorities to you, that is all.

It does not mean they are not looking after their families or they don't manage their finances well or any of the other things that I have seen you imply since you joined this thread.

Healthy people who can move around, have other sources of heat (even blankets and hot water bottles) do not necessarily need the heating on constantly.

Of course everyone needs to stay healthy but this thread is about support and advice, no implied criticism for those who do not have their heating on for whatever reason.

I would be just as disappointed to hear someone constantly make little digs at people who did have their heating on alot or set on high - people make their own individual choices and those deserve to be respected.
  • It's been on for 4 hours today, but is off again now. Hopefully can keep it off til we return from shopping in the snow(!) at half 8 ish tonight.

I think we are due a flurry this evening, but daytime highs of 5 degrees at the weekend, and ....rain :( I'd take this over rain any day, its cleaner than the mud I have to trudge through all the time if its wet and not frozen.
