It was such a lovely but bitterly cold morning today. THere was a beautiful frost and as we drove through the countryside it made me smile!

The heating has been on for about an hour and a half each morning but I am thinking it is too much. May need to cut that down to half an hour. In the evenings we have the heating on for four hours from 6-10. Thinking that is definitely too long! I'm going to change that from 6.30 until 9.30 I think. I'm always in bed about 10ish anyway and I have a hot water bottle. DP is on the sofa still at that time but has a sleeping bag round him. I'm sure he will live!

Very cold frosty start to the day, the car was complete white all over, the temp hasnt risen much at all, my heatings on now ,and will remain so until I go to bed tonight.....

    This weather is so depressing......

I hope it cheers up for you. we had a bitter start but it was beautiful. We felt our way through mist to the car crunching across the frost, and it felt cold and clean and beautifully fresh. The mists took ages to lift but its a clear, sunny clean-cold day..not that damp and dank type cold that gets into sore joints and feels desperate when trying to do washing and housework.

This mornings frost did also make me chase up the grit we ordered for this winter and it will be here on Thursday or Friday.
  • BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR chilly chilly today but not according the temp readers!

Outside 8 degrees inside 18 degrees, before lunch I was freeeeeeeeezing cold, could not wait to get in the car for a short trip to the pharmacy heater blower was on full all the way there and back :)

Just got back in and give in and put the heating on for an hour, I dont think 18 degrees is all that cold but I was freezing must be a sign of getting old :( ALong with the creeky knees and the knackered back and I am only 32!!!!!! Crikey :)

Anyhow if your cold get warm simple as stuff BG greedy ********!

Went for our heating oil yesterday bit of a polava only managed to get 100 litres so will have to go back later in the week, really want to get in front with it and it is getting really tempting to ring one of the blood sucking oil companies I am determined not to!

Dont worry spring will ne here before you know it, well it will be here that is after the rain, snow, ice, sleet, hail oh and of course the winds and not forgetting the good old floods :) Cheery eh?

Your absolutely right electric cookers, showers, tumble dryers and most kind of electric heaters eat it like it is going out of fashion but with the rises coming gas prices it is debatable there would be any saving anyhow :(

I was saying to my better half this morning I think it is really sad that we and many many others have to decided how cold is bareable before we put the heating on! It really should not be like this, heat, lighting these arent really lifes little luxuries are they and the worst part is it can only really get even more expensive!

  • mrsr - you might try investing in a halogen oven..? I have one and find it really quick (no heating up time) and very fuel efficient (you only heat a much smaller space than with the conventional oven) and it cooks things beautifully :)
It also gives off a bit of heat into the kitchen as a bonus..

    Cheers

Mostly managing to have heating off. Just put it on for an hour in the morning before we get up so place nice and cosy while we all get dressed and have breakfast. Then set it for an hour before we all get home.

    * Had cavity wall insulation fitted last year and it works wonders.
    * Also have fitted silver foil behind radiators on external walls.
Shiny side facing the radiator as it helps reflect heat back into the room.
    * Went down to a bargain store and got The snuggie blankets you see advertised on TV for half price, paid just £6.95
    * After cooking I leave the oven door open and it heats the kitchen up nicely
    * Pulling the thermal curtains around dusk keeps the place nice and warm
    * The kids wear snug jim-jams and socks to bed so they dont wake up if they kick their duvets off. Thats more so I get a good nights sleep than worrying about them
