We had a very nasty frost here this morning which lasted nearly all morning too... Plus fog which still hasn't cleared

Heating is very much ON in this house, altho its on low so we are still wrapped up in lots of layers and warm slipper boots for the kids, sheepskin slippers for me :D

My knees are starting to give me gip which will last until spring :(

day 16 of the month and the heating has been on only twice this month--just for 6 hours in total.

i fear my heating going on because i dont have a timer connected to the combi--we tend to fall asleep and wake up baking in the middle of the night when we start using it--i live abroad and they wanted 140 quid to fit one when we had the heating installed--i bulked!!
    mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.

I have the heating on timed for about 1/2 an hour in the morning to take chill off when we get up, then it comes back on twice in evening for 2 separate periods of an hour. Despite this, our clothing, bedding etc still feel damp. Have to watch the pennies but t is freezing in here and averages around 10-12 degrees when the heating isn't on so it is quite chilly.

Do be careful wearing damp clothing in cold houses, you should never lay in damp sheets, thats not good at all...... as my mother would say "youll catch the pip"...cut back somewhere else so you can have the heating on more often in the cold.........you are risking your families health..........

It might be worth turning your heating on for longer but keeping the temperature a little lower with the 'main room' a touch warmer.

Try and make sure you keep water vapour in the house down as much as possible, a window or two open for a short while in the warmest part of the day, do the hoovering or other energetic task then to keep warm.

Put hot water bottles in the bed at teatime to warm them through and re-fill them at bedtime.

Damp is very bad for you, so try and do what you can to minimise it.
Have a google for solar heat catchers, they are made for a few pence and can help raise the temperature a bit more on sunny days, allowing you to turn down/off the heating so you can afford more heating when it's cold.

Hard times hun , wishing you well.

agree with addressing dampness! Also, while airing rooms make sure bedding is thrown back not made to let the bed air too. I often leave bed airing (i.e. thrown back, window open or otherwise) all day and make just before getting in: saves going back up to make it.

The condensation at my house, not devon but south of england still had turned to ice in the hall upstairs and spare room this morning and I skidded across the farmyard. I wore thermals under a dress and jumper to go out and ended up having to take jumper off -and my dress was sleeveless.:o
  • It was 7c when I got up this morning. It went up to 9c later. It's still a cosy 18c in the flat without the heating on,so can't complain.
