Goooorrrrrrgeus day today! :T Mild and sunny. I was in central London in the morning and then in leafy, countrified far north-west of London, and I was HOT under my coat! :j:j
It goes without saying that the heating is firmly OFF! :D
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.
  • Another central-Londoner here, with all the windows open and loving how mild today is. Boiler can have another night off!

IMHO what's important is that people are warm enough, and that can be achieved without putting on the central heating. I grew up without it and didn't perish! But it might not suit other folks, I get that ... each to their own. :)

I don;t think it can, not for me. Even with layers on, if my face and hands are cold, then all of me is cold, and I can;t bear being cold in the house, so my heating has been on for ages. I actually never turn it off, just change the thermostat setting. It's currently at 20/21C. in the summer it's at 15 or so.

I grew up in a cold house and still remember how hideous it was, and my first flat was sooo cold I only showered about once a week cos I couldn;t bear to get naked in it!

I refuse to be cold for the sake of a few pounds, and I certainly won;t have my DD being cold - the OP horrified me (I know it's from 2006 but still).

Oh well I didn't mean just layers, sorry! When it's been really cold I lit the fire here and that did fine cos I don't mind the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom being cold. I am very lucky to have a bunker of smokeless fuel - it's the gas heating that I can't afford to turn on.

You're dead right though - you've got to do what's right for you. Stay cosy!!!

Edit: another thing that has really helped me keep the heating off on cold evenings is my wheatbag and a hot water bottle tucked under my fleece rugs. The kept me really warm even when the room was cold.
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Our house is like an oven lol but we like it like that. I do spend a lot of time outside in the day though, getting cold, so I like it warm when I'm home.

  • I hadn't even thought about the heating until I saw this thread! still off here... but it's been quite mild today so no need for it. Not even tucked up warmly!

  • Heating is still off here. The husband hasn't even started complaining yet like he normally does each year when I won't let him turn on the heating. He's currently sitting in shorts and t-shirt so we're definitely not at heating temperatures yet.

I'm actually considering seeing how close to December I can get without it now. We only pay £15 a month DD for the gas anyway (3 bed terrace) so I doubt we could get it down much further but it's fun to try :rotfl:

Just a quick check in to say still off here happy0030.gif
Its still a little chilly first thing in the morning and last thing at night but not bad enough for me to put the heating on. Considering taking the summer duvet off the bed but will see if I can make it into Nov before I do that aswell.
