    Anyone else?

    Counting down [STRIKE]25th[/STRIKE]:D, [STRIKE]26th[/STRIKE]:D, 27th, 28th, 29th, 30th, 31st then have a think about putting the heating on

Doesn't look that much when you see the dates like that does it?

Who else needs a bit of moral support to get through the mornings next week?

I'll update again tomorrow as I'm off to warm up in fleecy bedding now! Welcome aboard everyone, let's stay strong together and see if I can hang on to not put the heating on for the longest I've ever done

    Evening everyone, how's everyone doing?

My heating is still OFF and strangely it's warmer outside than in my house this evening. However, I'm wrapped up warm inside and all ok. I thought about putting it on tonight then the thought of this thread stopped me from doing that. I'm looking forward to the big switch on next week if needed though

Don't worry if you don't manage this week. It's better to keep warm and cosy if you need to.

You are right in the last sentence... Its better to keep warm and cosy if you need to.

I don't like the thought of people waiting for a particular date to put the heating on as a challenge... sure its good to save money but for those extra few days, is it really worth it??

Mine is on, but on low as always this time of year.. My mum always freezes at my house but we have aclimatised... (me and DD's aged 4.5. Its on 24/7 but low. Enough to keep chills at bay but you don't get that HEAT that you get when some friends open their front doors  OMG what must they be spending on heating

Just noticed my toes are cold even in my sheepskin slippers!!! A few ankle turns (think aircraft safety vids :D) and they are ok.

Also, doing planks (exercise thing) will really warm you up... Basically you lie on the floor on your front, put your elbows on the carpet and balance on your toes (knees if your back is not strong). Holding this position for 30 seconds a few times will warm you up no end :D Google it if you aren't sure of the position. DON'T DO THIS IF YOU HAVE HIGH BP.

I've technically cheated already and have had it on one day this month. Although this isn't about saving money because I need to do so. It's more about recognising that the heating doesn't need to be on just because I think it's a bit nippy - as my Dad says 'he who pays the bill puts jumpers on'... so true! In previous years, I've had the heating on from August to May without thinking, which is ridiculous.

  • Still OFF but yesterday morn was so cold that had electric (small, portable one) heater in my bedroom and turned it on for 10 mins in morn - then we all got dressed and were ready to go :) although have 3 bed house 1 room is tiny so has 3 wardrobes in and in main room is double, cot and single and me n all 3 kids sleep in there. 3rd bedroom has no use yet? With door closed and 4 bodies with thick curtains we do ok! When downstairs we close doors and all have the fleeces with arms in - presents!

Same here! It was 17C earlier today and even just now it felt balmy compared to inside the house! Just checked and it's 15C inside with no fire lit, not heating or anything.

I guess it depends on the individual circumstances. It's definitely a good idea for me. For a start, I'm making a concerted effort to reduce my carbon footprint. And my gas bills were horrendous last winter and I would not have been able to afford to have the heat on when there was snow last Jan if I hadn't kept it off last October and part of November. This time of year tends to be chilly but not terribly cold like Jan and Feb. I looked up average temps and November seems to be comparable to March so not too bad at all really.

IMHO what's important is that people are warm enough, and that can be achieved without putting on the central heating. I grew up without it and didn't perish! But it might not suit other folks, I get that ... each to their own. :)
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Well although mines on the stat its not clicked on for a while, the overnight temperature here hasn`t dropped below 11 degrees outside all night - i know cos i`ve been awake for most of it :o Can`t seem to nod off.

Inside its 17 degrees so its not costing me a bean, hopefully it will stay as warm as this for a while and then we can all relax a bit :j

The washing has been drying quicker too - i was struggling a bit and have had the dryer on for a couple of short spells a few nights ago as thicker things like jeans and OH`s work trousers take ages, i`d love to be able to hang things outside but its still raining.

Fingers crossed for some fine days.

I'm still off here aswell and looking at the temp just now (inside) its 14C with no heating on so although we've had some cold spells, and nights, its getting milder again. I cant quite justify putting the heating on just yet. Dad was here for a while last night and commented that he felt it a little cool but then admitted himself that it may just be 'cos he was tired...............still managing ok and still have my summer duvet on the bed :D
