if it was so cold that would put my kids health at risk the heating would come on straight away but at the moment it isnt. The only time the temp does go very low is at night when they are wrapped up in bed! If it got that cold during the day then the heating would be used.

Rest assured I will not be endangering my kids to save a bit of money. x
  • In my building the only control I have over the heating is in the winter months, and even then it's limited. What I mean by this is that I can either have the heating on or off during the day.It goes off automatically at about 10pm and I think it comes on at 6am,if you turn the radiators on,that is.So if I'm freezing cold in the night,I can't put the heating on,because there is none.
The radiators simply don't function in the summer months,of course.
All of the above seems to be the general rule here (in Switzerland) if you live in rented accommodation.
I think it's ridiculous that I can't have the heating on at night or later then 10pm if I want, but there's not much I can do about it....

Is this similar with rented accommodation in the UK?Surely not....
  • punky if it was filling you would have heard the water going in. I think too that you might need a heating engineer. Also, it will be in need of a service if its been "neglected" for so long.

    Gosh this thread moves fast!

Well after dismantling half of my kitchen ('skirty' bits from around the bottom of wall units and unscrewing the splashback covering the tap to increase pressure) i did indeed increase the pressure. Bled the radiators/ increased the pressure/ bled the radiators pressure stayed above 1 but alas my lounge radiator STILL isnt getting warm :( All the other radiators are toasty but not the lounge.

I've bitten the bullet and contacted the managing agents but I'm not holding out much hope for a quick response (its taken them 3 months to come out to stop the leaky bath!!)

    Sending warm thoughts to all!!!

Doesn't look that much when you see the dates like that does it?

Who else needs a bit of moral support to get through the mornings next week?

I'll update again tomorrow as I'm off to warm up in fleecy bedding now! Welcome aboard everyone, let's stay strong together and see if I can hang on to not put the heating on for the longest I've ever done

Evening everyone, my heating is still OFF, I've just got back from a run and came back v.warm. Now tucked up under a blanket as its cool in here. Soon off for a hit shower to warm up and then tuck up again with a very hot mug of chocolate and I'll be warm enough and cosy

Don't worry if you don't manage this week. It's better to keep warm and cosy if you need to.

  • Yes. Gave in last week, but then we do live in the far north. Worst thing is getting changed in the bathroom. Thermostat on 18 - quite comfortable now.

Still off here but it is no hardship. After a frosty start, it was a relatively mild day and evening. The fire is lit, I am tucked up under fleece rugs and have a big mug of tea ... so I am TOASTY!!! The hardest thing about keeping it off is that clothes take so long to dry but I succumbed to tumble drying some towels this evening. Hopefully the residual heat will help dry the clothes hanging on the airer beside it.

Edit: it depends on the weather but I am hoping to last till November 10th
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

    Hi

    Mine is still off.

A male friend complained that he was feeling cold. I asked him why he was only wearing a t-shirt and shorts. He says it because he's got dangly bits.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Men!!!!!!!!!!!

Mine's off still... been watching the thread with interest... I hadn't realised being cold could be bad for me.

It was on yesteryday, I should make it to November and beyond as I've got more socks, jumpers, scarves etc than you can shake a stick at. Although the neighbour fed the cat and left him inside on Sunday because 'he looked and felt cold'... perhaps it's colder than I think.
