Is your heating ON or OFF?

My friend lives in a flat and it sounds quite similar. Only she can't put the heating on at all in flat from March 1st until October 1st! She found this out after trying to put it on in August because she was chilly. The caretaker for the flats said it comes on on October 1st and then it only comes on at something like 8pm and is on until 6am. She can switch it off if she wants but can't switch it on in the day!
It seems crazy - last year I remember having a week off work and the car thermometer didn't read above -8 each time I drove in the daytime. If it's like that again and she was at home she would be so, so cold!
Edited to add:
By contrast my last rented flat we could have heating on when we wanted, just as we can in our current rented house. And we are very lucky as the landlord installed a new boiler in June before we moved in and it is amazing!
It's ridiculous,I agree.From about mid-April to mid-October there is simply no heating.
I don't see why it's so.After all,it's not as if I don't pay for what heating I use!
I might look into getting a portable electric heater, just for when it gets really cold. Not that I'd want to use it loads....
It's 7c outside just now,but sunny.I've got all the windows open,I love having a good airing.0 -
heating still off. not a nice day today so might have to put the electric fire on later for an hour if sun doesnt come out. off out into town this morning so hopefully the rain will stay off for a bit then back for hot choccys.0

Caravans can be freezing as they have very little insulation. You may want to take a fleece blanket for underneath the bedding, or as I do use a sleeping bag under the duvet to keep the draughts out. Plus about six hot water bottles.!!:rotfl:
Your right about little insulation. We have the fire and heater on and i can still feel a draught round my back,i cuddle up to a hot water bottle and wrap a blanket round me.Bedrooms worse i will try your sleeping bag idea hadn't thought of that.At least we are shutting it up soon ,thats a sign winters here .
I'm feeling cold here at home this morning its dull and wet no sun to warm things up The living room last night was 20 its 17 this moning .Not that cold but i feel it at that temp .Keep warm everybody0 -

I found the oil filled radiators with a thermostat good for heating a room quite evenly, and of course they are not on all the time as the thermostat only clicks the heater in when the temperature falls.
They do take some time to get the room to temperature so I used a plug in timer( must be fuse rated enough for the appliance) to switch it on about an hour before I needed it.
I remeber the formula for electric heating as I reseached it at the time it is 300w per cubic metre of room volume. Measure the length X the breadth X the height of the room to get this figure.
I found a halogen heater to be good at heating you if your sat in front of it but they didn't heat the room much, so it depends what type and how much heating you want.
Fan heaters heat the room very quickly but are so noisy!0 -

Counting down [STRIKE]25th[/STRIKE]:D, [STRIKE]26th[/STRIKE]:D, 27th, 28th, 29th, 30th, 31st then have a think about putting the heating on
Doesn't look that much when you see the dates like that does it?
Who else needs a bit of moral support to get through the mornings next week?
I'll update again tomorrow as I'm off to warm up in fleecy bedding now! Welcome aboard everyone, let's stay strong together and see if I can hang on to not put the heating on for the longest I've ever done
Evening everyone, how's everyone doing?
My heating is still OFF and strangely it's warmer outside than in my house this evening. However, I'm wrapped up warm inside and all ok. I thought about putting it on tonight then the thought of this thread stopped me from doing that. I'm looking forward to the big switch on next week if needed though
Don't worry if you don't manage this week. It's better to keep warm and cosy if you need to.final unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550 -

Ours is off. I, too, have set 1 November as the date to aim for. I'm still wearing just a t-shirt indoors (on my top half)0
