It's been definitely warmer today and good job too, as I was on a transport survey all around West London. I'm sitting here now, heating off and not feeling any cold at all. Maybe the expected dreadful winter is not due quite yet. :)
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

Well lucky you, Quasar:D It's quite cold here.

We are resorting to steak and kidney with dumplings and have just remade the bed with brushed cotton/flannel bedding.:j

Our heating is on a timer here, with thermostat control set to about 18 degrees.

I was cold this morning, as I was cold at work yesterday I remember to get out my scarf and gloves. Warmed up after a bit. Not as cold as yesterday this evening but still felt tempted to put it on for a couple of hours.

Another day ticked off ok - see if can manage the weekend and then take it day by day again next week

It's 12 degrees in the living room right now. I'm strangely OK, I've got trousers, sheepskin boots, a vest top and a chunky cardi on, and my body feels pretty toastie. My hands feel cold though!

I didn't want to put the heating on til November, but I think I will need to re-think. Its pretty unreasonable to expect the family to sit at 12 degrees just so I can save a bean or two!

I'm really struggling with the central heating at work, though. They must heat it well above 20 degrees, I'm sweltering! I'm happiest between 15 and 18 degrees, but I'm a tough old bird!

Actually that's not a bad idea. Takes me all my time to get the OH to decorate as it is though, if I suggested something like this I'm sure I'd be eating paintbrush!

So am i! i do a mixture of inside and outside work and its stifling inside and its not necessary, people turn the rads on and then go out and i have to go around turning them down or off.

Everyone inside walks around in short sleeved shirts. I thought at first it was just me but a few have commented on the stifling temps inside.

Outside now its 5 degrees which is warmer than it has been for quite a while, i keep looking to see if its dropped any lower but surprisingly its holding up to now. Inside is 17 which is just right :D

We have finally succumbed and put the heating on, as it was really cold yesterday and I needed to scrape frost off my car. I can already feel my skin drying out from the heating!
    Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!
  • Well, the heating is still off however I just succommed and decided I cannot work in the freezing cold as my brain is no longer functioning.

I moved into this house a couple of months ago and never tested the heating (stupidly) and its not working. (Surprise surprise)

The property was empty for 2 years before I moved here and the pressure is 0. I've turned what I can only assume is the right tap under the boiler to increase the pressure and nothing has happened? Am I right in thinking it should start to move fairly instantaneously? Or will I need to leave it on for a while to get the dial to move?

Sorry for sounding so thick, I really have no clue about these things :o I've had a google and after reading all the instructions I cant see where I'm going wrong? The boiler is OLD its a protherm 80e if anyone has the same one.

Firmly on for a half an hour in the morning and it makes all the difference, getting up and out of bed is not so bad now that the house is warmer.

Still off during the day and those of us who are at home just put more layers on. Around 6pm the woodstove goes on and a couple of half logs work well to warm the ground floor of the house. The kitchen is warmed by the cooking stove.

So far this arrangement is working, but perhaps in the near future we will need to add some heating time in the evening and then supplement it with a bit of wood fire. See how it goes.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

I think you may need an engineer as it is possible the whole system was drained down and decommisioned if the property was to be left empty.
