I had a little thermometer guide through the post from one of the age concern charities and it changes colour if its too cold .But I also have a small clock on the mantlepiece that also has a temp gauge on it that tells me what the temps are in the sitting room and if its below 18-19 the heating goes on no matter what the date as my joints won't work well in the cold .

Many online accounts will allow you to adjust your own payment as long as you don't try to adjust below their figure. If not, why not ring and say you don't want your payments reduced, so you can use heating as and when you need it. Humans can understand what computers wouldn't see :D

I tried but it wouldn't let me so I thought I would just leave it as I had the £193 credit.

They sent me a letter today telling me they have refunded me £193 back into my account :(

I am now only paying £38 a month direct debit since they reduced it from £64 and have no credit right before the big winter bills are due. How do they think that makes sense.
Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.

Much warmer here today, 9 degrees outside and it was 16 inside but the thermostat clicked and now its up to 17 and its clicked off again. Just right now, not too warm but not chilly either.

I`ll leave it on the stat for a while now and just turn it off before going to bed and then i know that the inside temp won`t drop below 16.

Jinny - We`ve got a back boiler behind our gas fire too but we have a large vent in the floor which leads to outside and its blooming freezing, i know that they are supposed to be left alone but i`ve got an argos book half way across it and have done for the last 5 years. There`s enough cold air coming down the chimney i think. If i left it alone then it wouldn`t be worth putting the heating on, at least it deflects the cold air a bit and doesn`t direct it straight at my feet but towards the wall instead. The air still gets in but indirectly

Lovely and sunny here now but the wind is bitey, think that the temp will drop rapidly again later.

Planning on starting the GC again soon :p

13 degrees in the living room at moment, but heating is on timed and will come on shortly for an hour or two. Fortunately i have been out until half an hour ago so haven't been sitting freezing all day!

    :(

I had a letter earlier this month reducing my payments as I was £178 in credit (which I knew). The letter stated that they would be refunding the credit amount back to my bank account within 14 days. I telephoned them immediately and told them not to as I had intentionally built up this credit to cover the winter bills and they told me they had already processed it. I was not happy; yes I know its better off in my bank than theirs but I'm running a very tight budget atm as I'm on JSA and I dont want any extra swallowed up/lost. When I explained all this to the Customer Services Representative she was lovely and arranged to 'claw back' the repayment so that it remained on my gas account. (The money was credited to my bank account the following day and 'clawed back' two days later). Perhaps this might work for you too.
