Is your heating ON or OFF?

Oh, I would so love an open fire, I don't get that warm fuzzy feeling staring at a white radiator somehow. Can't beat a real fire.0

Well the cat is currently flaked out in front of a roaring woodburner so I think you can guess0

Glad you posted this jackie, money saving is excellent but not at the expense of our health. Sadly I think with all the cuts it may be a choice between heating and eating for some.
If you can't afford to heat the whole place then keeping one room at the right temperature is probably achievable for almost everyone.
Draught excluders and thick curtains can help keep the heat in as well as the cold out.0 -
we had to finally give in and put it on this morning only half hour to warm up house but we have had quite a frost over night down here but looking out the window now the sun is coming out so i hope it warms up a little:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0

Our oil ch has been coming on for the last few weeks for half an hour in the morning just before we get up and half hour in the evening around 7pm, this takes the chill off the boys bedrooms etc, the radiators hold the heat really well and are still warm nearly 2 hours later, ideal for airing off laundry.
There was a damp feel in the house in the evenings so decided this was needed to air house out.
This last couple of days we have been lighting the coal fire in the sitting room, this is keeping all of downstairs at a reasonable level.
Although the wind is chilly we have still had some nice drying days so laundry has still been put outside and just needs airing off on the radiators. My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.
Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).

I succumbed last night - but the problem with storage heaters is obviously that you don't get instant heat. I turned mine on to store overnight at a time when there had been so much hailstones that the road and rooftops were white:eek: We even had hailstones coming through the chimney and landing on the carpet.
This morning though, it's lovely and toasty thanks to the storage heaters but it's also a very sunny (if not cold) day out so I'm not entirely sure whether we'd have been okay without the heating on.
Will check weather forecasts and see whether or not to turn it off again.DFW Nerd 941 Proud to be dealing with my debt

Thank you Jackieglasgow for pointing out the dangers of keeping the heating off when it is too cold! This is why every few posts I repeat that this is not a competition and that if it becomes uncomfortable we should be kind to ourselves and put it on.
And guess what - last night DH was saying how uncomfortable he finds it getting up in the early morning and going to have a shower in a freezing bathroom (it faces North and it never gets any sun, plus it is right at the back of the house so it does not benefit from the heat of the woodstove). So I reminded him that the 1st November rule is not written in stone and asked him to put it on for a 1/2 hour before getting up time.
He did so and you know what, it makes such a difference to get up in a warmer house! So we have capitulated - only a half hour a day for now, but if it gets any colder we will increase it, November or not!:T
The only place I definitely don't want the heating on is in my bedroom, which luckily is south-facing and very warm on sunny days. Even in the coldest of weathers I would rather have two quilts and a hot water bottle than a radiator on. I have been known to open a window in the middle of the night in the middle of winter if I felt too hot (it must be my age hehee). Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0
