It's currently off despite the rather chill wind outside and dropping temperature. I'm wearing a thick charity shop body warmer which cost me £3, and a pair of fingerless gloves bought from a market stall for £1 which are keeping my fingers warm while I'm typing this. Hoping my "invest to save" outlay will save me more than £4 in fuel costs over the coming winter.

No , surely you are joking when you say you are wearing gloves indoors????.
My heatings on at 21 degrees and im well comfy in my dressing gown , I find it hard to believe what lenghts some people go to to save such a small amount of money on fuel to keep warm.......cut back some where else so that you can be comfy in your home , without wearing outside gear inside, how do you move about,?Id feel very miserable if I couldnt have my heating sitting in a freezing house,,its okay if you dont mind living like that , but its def not for me..................

Thanks Quasar - I know that and usually stick to that too!

I have some nice thick bootie style slippers for winter that are warm and cosy and I'm asking for another pair for Christmas, I always layer and keep warm to keep hands and feet warm and its only when the cold bites my hands are cold inside the house. I usually warm them up on a hot drink but I like the idea of fingerless gloves and I'm off to have a look in primarni to find a pair!

Great ideas as usual on here x

I wear fingerless gloves - we call them nearly gloves - but it's not cold enough yet. Heating still off here and OH is sitting in t-shirt so obviously not cold. First real snow of winter though so it won't be long. Trying to hold out until new windows fitted on 1st Nov.

We will keep our heating at about 18 degrees on a thermostat for now.

If I feel cold, I wear trackie or fleece pyjama pants, socks and slippers, a long sleeved t-shirt and a loose fleece or cardigan.

As long as my feet and my back are warm, I'm okay.

Yes, as a precaution because I'm sitting still at a computer and blood not circulating around as quickly as it would be if I was moving around. Obviously don't need them when I'm walking around doing household tasks but I envisage them being quite useful to keep my fingers warm when tucked up in bed at night reading. And yes, I could put the heating on but I find that if it gets too warm & stuffy I start suffering from a dry air-type of cough and neither of us like sleeping in an over-heated bedroom. As long as the bed's warm (with a nice hot water bottle if necessary) I find I sleep better.

I don't put my heating on until December or so irrespective of the weather.

Mine's still off :) - very thankful for this thread for keeping me motivated in my quest to last till November at least.. I have an electric blanket under the throw on the sofa, which is lovely to sit/lie on; the cats really appreciate it too, although that's only for a couple of hours in the evening. I also cuddle a hot water bottle, so am pretty cosy.

Shegar - I used to suffer terribly with sinusitus till I gave up dairy stuff. I use soya milk only but have been able to re-introduce cheese, as long as I don't overdo it. Glad about that, seeing as I'm vegetarian!
