Wow! To all those who can manage with no heat, I take my hat off to you. My heating has been on in the evenings for about a month how. Initially it was on from 7-10.30pm, but I've now upped it to 6-10.30pm and for an hour in the mornings.

I was originally aiming for 1 November but decided that making myself miserable to save a few pennies wasn't worth it when our Government holds that franchise

The 'stat is on 20 but I'll quite happily raise it to 21 at some point during the winter if necessary. Warmth over pennies saved along with lots of winter soup :D

Right. That's it! I need to win some serious money on the Lottery so I can move to warmer climes during this time of the year. I'm sat here with the 'stat on 20, in jammies, socks and a thick dressing gown and thinking about having a hot drink.

How on earth do you manage it Pink_Numbers?

Mine is on for a few hours in the evening (6-10) and today I bought a hot water bottle with a nice woolly jumper cover on for cuddling and in Peacocks I found the most awesome socks ever! They are knitted like a Fairisle (sp?) jumper and lined with fleece, also have the non slip dots on the bottom. £4 a pair. Now I'm looking for a nice blanket for the sofa so I can snuggle up with afore mentioned items and turn the heating down a bit :)

I think I made it to November 10th last year, would be nice to do it again but if I'm too cold it will go on. I find once the heat goes on I go all soft and there's no turning back! Last January was so cold I needed the heat on nearly all the time. It cost a fortune and I don't think I could have managed if I hadn't had the heat off till November.

But I am lucky in that I have an open fire I can use plus my living room gets sun most of the day so it that helps a lot. This morning it was 11.5C inside but by afternoon it was 17 and I was boiling!

    Stay warm everyone!
Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far! :)

If it's too cold there is no point in suffering it. A bit of heating is necessary otherwise we might as well try to hibernate like hedgehogs. I'd love an open fire! There's nothing like it on a cold winter day, to make a home feel truly like a home! :A

Oh I love the open fire too. I have a free supply of smokeless fuel so I don't have to worry about the cost. The problem is it has been left in an uncovered outside bunker and rained on for years so I think it is very damp and is not the best quality anyway - takes ages to get going. But still - I'm glad of it! Hmmm, I would love to hibernate like a hedgehog! I have enough fleece rugs that I could burrow under and not be found till Spring! :)
