I cant make out how come people say that if they light a candle there room warm up,!!! or put the TV on it warms up,...unless their room is the size of a shoe box I cant see that happening .....
It's probably more psychological than actual - you'd need quite a lot of candles to warm up a room, but I always feel cosier with the flickering glow!
ETA - DH is just about to light the fire for the first time this year!0 -
I had to get up at 5.30 this morning and it was real cool out, temp inside read 18 so I put the heating on to 22 degrees , had it on for hour then off it went......been nice out today,

we live in an eco house with massive insulation, cedar cladding and triple glazing with sheeps wool insulation in the downstairs ceiling. I candle does really heat the room. The kitchen is open plan and minimum temperature every morning is 21 with no heating and that comes from the fridge and freezer0 -

My best freind lives in a new build apartment, the living room is BOILING with no heating, just four people in it, she has to open the windows.
If she lit a candle you would suffer from heat stroke. Mind you it is tiny, tiny, tiny, I couldn't live there I'd go nuts.
I live in a draughty, cellared, single walled, high ceiling Victorian terrace. I need a volcanic furnace to heat mine and then some.0 -
This evening the temptation to switch on is very strong. I am still under the weather and DH is bed with a bad cold. DD said she is freezing (although I know that it is nothing that an extra jumper would not cure!).
The woodstove is definitely going on this evening and we will have a baked meal tonight so there will be more heat spread through the house.
I feel a bit of trigger-finger hovering over the ON switch of the central heating but will work at resisting. Cliffhanger.... more news tomorrow! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Been out most the day and DD is not home this evening so the heating will remain off.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

I too have a DD that's surpised she is cold in October whilst wearing a strappy top and shorts. Strange that don't you thinK?0 -
Yes bluebag, the same with DS, he wears a t-shirt and then goes on that the weather is freezing! In the past I have found the heating on full blast all day, which he had switched on after I left for work!
I keep telling them both that I cannot wait that they have their own homes and I shall visit, switch on all the lights, leave rooms without switching lights off, have tall hot baths, make interminable phone calls to my friends, linger in front of the fridge with the door open and a vague expression on my face "making my mind up" and then whingeing that there is never anything to eat there, but above all I shall stick the heating at full blast the moment I get into their homes, regardless of the season! Give them some of their own medicine, I say :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -

Snap!
I'm not quite at the point of switching on the heating yet but I can feel it getting closer. Taking it day by day for now and aiming for another week
I've got my thicker new flannel bedding on, thick socks and all the blankets out ready
I'm ok apart from cold feet. Not looking forward to the early starts next week - bet its chilly at 5am!final unsecured debt to repay currently £8333Proud to be Dealing With my DebtDFW Nerd 1154 Long Haul 1550 -

I nag relentlessly, it takes some effort but after a while you become quite good at it. I also find taking the fuses out of things reduces the bills somewhat, especially the boiler.
I thought the fridge was an 'air conditioner' for the kitchen for some time! Nice to know I'm not alone!0 -
Glorious sunshine and fluffy clouds today, hooray, with only a short squall that came and went while I was having lunch in a cosy little restaurant. Definitelly chillier generally than it was a week or so ago, but not yet warranting the heating on. Long may it last.:ABe careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0
