My heating`s off, but no through choice..it`s oil and we can`t afford to top up the tank, which is empty.
The only fuel company that delivers here is Scottish Fuels. As we are tenants, they won`t let us pay up in installments. Last enquiry I was quoted around three hundred quid for 500 litres. I just don`t have that money without taking it from paying other, crucial bills.
The only heat we have is from the fireplace in the livingroom.

We're still holding out until the 1st of November.

I'm now wondering if the the boiler will actually fire up after six months asleep. The poor thing is getting a bit old now.

    Hi

Still off in London. Sunny at the mo but a bit chilly

I checked the boiler yesterday and central heating is working. (had a bit of a scare and thought it wasn't working. Realised that it's been set to come on when the temperature falls below 15 degrees. Doh)

Did give in and put the fire on in the lounge last night, Sunday roast tonight so the cooker should warm the place up.

It was the first frost here last night, and I note from my records that the first frost didn't occur until the 7th Nov last year, which is when the heating went on. The next frost didn't occur until the 1st Dec.

It seems to be colder earlier this year, and the forecast for next week is not good!

Not sure which is worse, wet and warm or cold and dry!

Central heating still off, but I have put the electric blanket on to preheat the bed for us for the last few nights. Will be a few weeks yet before the heating goes on, but I am aiming to get the chimney swept this week, so that we can light the fire. We are in the south east though, so maybe a bit warmer than other places? Its sunny and crisp here today:)

Our children (4 & 5) don't seem bothered by the cold yet, but I'm wrapping them up well, and they are in bed snuggled up by the time the temperature drops in the evening.

We had a lovely log fire last night, and I think we might have to have another one later. At the moment it's just under 17.4c in the lounge, and just over 13.5c outside.

I've been driving around all day - picking up DS from one party, taking DD2 to another party, but luckily DH has gone to pick up DD1 from her DofE walk, so at least I can start making some dinner! The kitchen will warm up then anyway!

    Hi all

Glad to report that the trigger finger hovering over the ON switch stayed put, but instead we put a fair amount of wood on the stove and left the door open, which warmed up the whole house really nicely - the wood is scavenged during the year, chopped and stored in the shed in the garden so we do not consider that an extravagance. It is incredible how many people throw away perfectly good wood in skips, all the better for us!

I am still quite unwell but not feeling cold while I am in bed, so I think that we can resist another few days, hopefully, before putting the central heating on. Good luck to all of you who are trying to make it to November, too!

Annie123, I think that we get less of a cold house because ours faces South so on these last days of good weather, with the curtains up, the front of the house was fairly warm!
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).
