Got colder here today but I can still cope well without heating :T
Hi Westy :hello: - by the way, Lou is back!Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0 -
still off here in london. it was beautifully warm at the weekend and the sun warmed up the house. the temp is dropping back again now. The forecast for next week is cold but i'm hoping not to sucumb to putting the heating on til at least the beggining of november.:j0

It is off here at the moment, but won't be for much longer. I feel the cold more than my OH, so it is always a fight between "I am cold and already wearing warm clothing while snuggled under the duvet" and "yes but it is so expensive"...
Our heating at work was turned on last week, far too early (usually it goes on a bit late) and now the boiler has packed in just in time for the colder weather, so I am taking in our greedy electric mini radiator tomorrow! We don't use it at home as it just chews up electricity, but if it keeps us a bit warmer at work and stops the students moaning I will be happy to see it used.Trust me - I'm NOT a doctor!0 -
mine is now on for an hour in the morning and 3 hours at night. was hoping to last longer....but oh well.
mite reduce it again over the following days...when OH is away, i can cope better LOLMoved into dream house - 17/08/12Savings - £600Xmas 2013 - £43Credit card - £2741 :eek:0 -
Im a SAD sufferer every Oct to Feb, and im really trying to fight it , I just want to hibernate now til Feb....and get 4 in the afternoon and I want to get under a warm fleece and not come out...
Me tooBeing pregnant this time means i cant really take much for it but im hoping DS's arrival near christmas will be a good thing and be my saviour
It was DD's first christmas last year too (she was 10months) and it was really nice around then to watch her and plan things.
Well i had to get up at 4.30 to turn the radiators on. DD woke with a sore throat and a cough, as did me and OH. Me and DD have a cold now  so i turned the thermostat to 18c and its much better this morning (thermometer was reading 15c in DDs room, which is the warmest before i switched it on). Cant be waking up feeling like death, and its not fair on my little girl. Heating wont be on in the day just yet, its just so drafty up here in the night, my draughtproofing the bedroom window didnt have much effect
PP (sorry the previous posts below my reply dont go back enough), RE cavity wall insulation, its the wool fibre stuff they blow in that they are going to use. Dad already warned me about the poly ballsThanks for the heads up though, interesting to hear about those insulation boards, can you put them up interiorly? We have a freezing flat roof extension to part of the kitchen that has nothing insulating the roof, its got no heating in there and the floor is concrete

:eek::eek: Really??? I have never had mine above 54c because thats all I need it to be to run a hot bath, and would worry about DDs scalding themselves if it were hotter.
Now I need to find out about this... BRB
Frugal,
Hi, as far as I know it is 60C if you have a hot water storage tank, like the old traditional boilers as legionella can grow in the tank.
I don't think it applies to combi's as you have no hot water tank and water is heated as you use it.

I keep my tank at 60 degrees
I am trying to hold out till November if I can, it is only two weeks away and if they are cold they can put layers on.
When I was a child we didn't have central heating just a gas fire in one room and an open fire in another.
I remember the winter of 1963 and we survived - I was 5 yrs old at the time.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Central heating still off but we are having the woodstove on in the evening when we sit in the living room, we also have dinners there so we do not feel too cold in the kitchen (large and draughty). DH has come down with the bug that I had this week so if he needs the warmth I shall have to put my principles aside and make him comfortable. See how it goes! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0

Had it on for a couple of hours yesterday but DD will be away all weekend so i am going to see if i can tough it out...have turned the heating off. Got a bit mixed up with regards to water temperature/legionaires...have a combi boiler and no tank now so will go back up and reduce t back down again since it doesn't seem to need to be set at 60 if the water is heated as it is used.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200
