    I just found this info.

I was just repeating what the boiler man told me. He said he wasn't allowed to turn it below 60c.

My heating is off at the moment, but thats because I wait for the dog to start shivering before I put it on
Nah I'm kidding, I wait until the temp drops to 16.5-17 degrees inside before I start putting it on. I do however have a wood burning stove that I've been lighting in the evening for about a week just to take the nip out of the air.

Heating still off although I did pop the gas heater on the other night to take the chill off the air for DS getting out the bath. Not been back on since and hoping to keep it off as long as poss :D. Still got lightweight duvets on beds so that'll be the next step if it gets colder...............holding out hope that I can last into November without the heating on!!

I should clarify this by saying that my bathroom heater (night storage kind with no temperature adjuster on so it doesnt EVER get very hot) is on all year round. This is only done as I had a serious condensation issue in there and having the window open constantly seemed to be the only soloution so to cancel out having the window open the heater is on. I keep the bathroom door closed at all times so neither the window being open or the heater being on affects the rest of the house. I know it makes very little sense but its what seems to work (also means I can get washing dried in there and lessens the use of the tumble drier :D)

Heating is still off but it will be going on for a wee bit tonight, we plan to bleed the radiators.

DD's room (warmest in house) was 15C until a few hours ago, its 16C now. Really drafty downstairs (as usual :(), thermometer is reading 12-15c  Just got the draught excluder sticky stuff out for our badly fitted window in the bedroom, its already causing us sore throats and coughs with the draft and we have a baby on the way mid December  who will obviously be in with us at first.

Got a quote for cavity and loft insulation (£300 for anyone who is interested, average 3 bed semi), so hopefully we will be able to afford that soon and our house will be alot better :o

Got my thicker socks on now and sat in my dressing gown. DD (19m old) is wrapped up in a long sleeved top, knitted dress and thick tights though her hands are cold the rest of her is toasty ;)

just a warning re foam cavity wall insulation. Dh was a structural engineer and he used to tell me about bridges going across the cavity and water travelling across to cause bad damp patches. He has seen many cases and it is impossible to remove the foam. A better solution is to use blown insulation like rockwool that could be sucked out if there were a problem

One of our houses in the past was very cold and he had a mesh put on the outside, leaving an air gap and then that was rendered over. The house was warm after that. Another house had a large bedroom over a garage that was utterly freezing and he put insulation board on the inside walls of that room

Many cases of damp walls are caused by using exterior paint that is watertight and does not allow the building to breath, eventually causing mould to form on the inside. Blocked up fireplaces have taken away a good source of ventilation

Today I did 2 loads of washing, big mistake because it has not dried at all outside so I have had to put it to dry inside. I have put it in a bathroom, on a lakeland heated airer with a window open, knowing that we have a passivent system that can detect damp air in the bathroom. The vents are in the 2 bathrooms, kitchen and downstairs utility so these are the rooms I would use for drying. Not the main house and the door will remain firmly shut until the washing is dry
