Is your heating ON or OFF?

May I ask, d'yall leave your heating on at night or use a timer or turn it down or what?
I always turn mine off about half an hour before bedtime and set the timer for it to come on in the morning.
Last year when the temps were really lo -10 I did leave it on low all night . Hubby wasn't well and I was also scared of the pipes freezing. Thought the gas bill would be heart attack large but it wasn't too bad considering.

At our last place we used a timer. Now we are mainly using our log fires in our new house although do use the GCH a bit. We are just popping it on for a bit at the time at the moment but when it is colder we will use a timer and have it on for half an hour in the morning and an hour int he evening probably.0 -
When ours does go on it is for approx half hour in morn and then about 630ish eves to coincide with childrens baths and bedtime. we never leave it on over night as it gets far to warm even on low but yes we have a timer to set it by though can bypass it if needed.any other times unless really cold its extra jumper or blanket:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0

hello bluebag
since we've got one of those digital thermostats for the g ch i now program it to turn off half hr b4 bedtime, from its evening temp of 18deg, BUT it will automatically turn itself back on at any point during rest of evening/night if house temp drops below 10deg.
i figured 10 is pretty cold for a house to get, even if i am tucked up in bed, didnt think it would actually get that cold overnight inside my house, but it did several times last winter, brrrr:eek:
then its programed to come back on again in the morning at wake up time, for half hour to an hr,
then wont come on again during day unless house temp drops below 13deg,until its programmed evening slot.
before we had new boiler with digital thingy it was just off overnight,as couldnt set old timer to come on/off more than 3times in any 24hr period!!!
hope this makes sense!
apart from a few times at the end of sept, heating hasnt been on regularly yet.0 -
Our heating is still off so we are doing not too bad. Tonight it seems colder than what it has been, if we can make it to hte weekend we are doing not too bad. We do have a small convector that I have stuck on a couple of times in the hall if DGS has been here. If we can get to the end of the month so much the better, but I do doubt that will be the case.Every days a School day!0

Ours went on today for the first time....the house was starting to feel a bit damp and "waterlogged" so we thought it best to have it on a constant 15 or 16 degrees to keep the chill off and our son's asthma at bay!0

I confess....
our heating is on!
and DH is complaining it's too warm in the evenings (ok for me, though)
but I notice he's not saying much when the bathroom is nice and warm in the mornings!0 -
Hiya happyin devon,
That sounds like a mega cool digital thingy, we had a new boiler last year, thank goodness as the winter was awful.
We only have very basic CH controls, them thermo do-dads on each radiator and a timer, maybe just as well as I don't do complicated.0 -

Ah yes! the famous battle of the thermostats, waged in many homes all over Great Britain. Epic stuff.:rotfl:0 -
Heating is off, we never have radiators on apart from the bathroom one which switches itself on from time to time
From November we usually have the electric heaters on constantly, one on the landing and one in the office. We have a halogen heater for the living room too when it gets chilly but it's too bright for me coz I can see it in the corner of my eye and there's nowhere else to put it. When it gets really really cold we have the gas fire on low for an hour or twoSavings £8,865.22 £/15,000 Aiming to save enough for a house deposit.0
