Ours is on as before for just an hour and a half morning and evening......so cold I have just lit the stove in the sitting room, OH asked why I was not using coal, told him I am saving that for when its really cold/ snowing/frosty. The extra roof insulation does seem to be having an effect, pity we cannot do the kitchen/bathroom/boot room done with roof and wall insulation, they are on the north side of the house....and can be bbbbrrrrrrr........

  • Hi all,

I'm amazed to be able to say this, but ours is still off!!! I think I've finally made OH see the light!

That said, its now very, very cold and I think tonight may be the night it goes on ~(but very low). We're having the house valued on Saturday, so I want the house warm for then. I suppose the same will be true of showing it to prospective buyers - oh well!

I applaud those of you determined to make it to Halloween!!

we had our's on for 5 mins this morning. My 3 littles one and i are poorly and although i could put with being cooler, my son was litrally shaking saying he was so cold, so just to take chill off had it one. but after 5 mins he was saying he was really hot. and we have kept all doors and windows shut and i've been baking so it has kept it warm.

last night was freezing, so i wrapped up in blankets. hubby wasn't cold tho, so i'm thinking it might just be where i'm full of cold.
  • At home we always only have it on unless its really necessary.

At college at the moment and they seem to have it on. We've got the window open because its so warm. I don't get why they think the need it on as its still warm enough at the moment
  • I had the heating on last night for about 3 hours, been out at work all day since 8am and had meetings afterwards, so was about 8.45pm when I got in, and i'm coming down with a cold too which doesnt help, so I decided it was going on. I don't go out much and I don't live an extravegant life, so my little luxury is being warm!I lit the coal fire too and lit some candles, and the room went from 15degrees to 23 in the space of about an hour. lovely and toasty, and I left my leccy blanket on low all night so was lovely and warm this morning. Winter duvet is going on today.

My DH turned the timer on for ours this morning, I was willing to continue to tough it out (of the two of us I feel the cold much worse generally) but he said he was freezing and I admitted the washing had taken 4 days to even begin to feel dry so he said that's it, he was putting the heating on! It's only for an hour or so in the morning and another hour in the evening when we get home from work so it's not going to be on too much and we'll still be using blankets and wrapping up to keep the chill off. We're currently waiting for our letting agents to call us and sort out a plumber to come and look at our radiators as some of them don't work which is hardly helpful in keeping the house warm enough!

  • Still not needed it. Felt a little chilly on Saturday evening but a blanket was enough to sort that out.
  • Mine was on for an hour last night - but other than that i have managed without.

My OH and the kids cope much better than me (I am always the first to complain i feel chilly)! however, i think this is to do with work - the office I work in is some kind of tropical micro-climate and there is a daily battle between the 'eco warriers' and the 'gas guzzlers' with the central heating timer.
