Is your heating ON or OFF?

I got some of those moisture traps from the poundshop.
I have a built in wardrobe on an outside wall that tends to get a bit fusty and I find one in there helps no end.

Sorry, but the boxes won't make a lot of difference. A dehumidifier running a few hours overnight will cost less (and work better) than heating with the windows open, or replacing damaged furniture, clothes etc
Do you have a room you can use for drying clothes and shut the door and leave the window wide open?0 -

Thank you to both of you for your replies. I'll keep an eye out for some.Sorry, but the boxes won't make a lot of difference. A dehumidifier running a few hours overnight will cost less (and work better) than heating with the windows open, or replacing damaged furniture, clothes etc

I rent, so the initial cost plus running it really puts me off them.
Hmm, I could put them in my [STRIKE]spare[/STRIKE] box room, but as I rarely go in there, the radiator is switched off and I don't think it would dry without the heating on?
The flat I live in is open plan, so the main kitchen/lounge area is all one big space. I tend to dry clothes in the lounge as there's more space, but I suppose that's not helping things. I always use the extractor fan when i'm cooking, but I am a bit lapse at keeping the windows open.
I don't have a window in the bathroom either which is a pain, but the extractor fan comes on automatically in there when I shower and I do close the door.
Excuse my rambling, i'm trying to think of a suitable room and not getting very far!Grocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100

Heating still off.
Doesn't feel too chilly here this evening but the dehydrator is on and it seems to have warmed the downstais considerably. Each night i do take a hot water bottle to bed with me as me tootsies (feet) get cold and i don;t like wearing bed socks!Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

Freakyogre (cute name!), do you think your landlord might pay for a dehumidifier? It's in his/her interests to stop the flat getting mouldy. I lived in a rented damp bedsit and the landlord supplied one. Even though I left it on nearly all the time I still had to throw out some bags, shoes and clothes that had mould growing on them. I was very glad to leave that place!Trying to spend less time on MSE so I can get more done ... it's not going great so far!
Sorry if I don't reply to posts - I'm having MAJOR trouble keeping up these days!

Very good very good... although I sense a little... disrespect! (just kidding!)
As for rooms... Hmmm I used to hang my washing on the radiators but that flat was as air tight as a par of fishnet stockings... Always worrying when you can see daylight round the windows I think... at the time was all I could afford LOL
There must be an underlying problem though for mould to develop surely? we had mould in THIS house and given that was a few years ago and it's not even 6 years old yet we found out it was a leaking shower tray... builders had fund fixing and repairing that! Not cold at all here again today, so again no heating on. This year I want to see just how late I can leave it before I put the heating on. I find that even in the coldest of weather, having a hot water bottle under my feet keeps me warm as toast. Oh, and a few hot drinks. :ABe careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0

Our heating is normally on for 1 hour a day all summer, for hot water purposes.
We gave in at the weekend, and turned 2 radiators back on as there was quite a nip in the air. And we have jumpers pulled out again too. But still only on for the single hour per day.GC 2010 €6,000/ €5,897

We are hoping to get to 1st November too before putting the heating on. Must try and remember to test it later as its not been tested since the warmer weather. (obviously if the weather gets very cold and jumpers are not working then with 2 little ones the heating will go on). At the moment its still between 19-21oC in the kiddies bedroom of a night so not time for the heating yet.2 adults and 3 children DD (14), DD (12) & DS (10) :smileyhea and 2 mental beagles.
