Is your heating ON or OFF?

Its chilly and damp in our area today so I have just put it on for a 15minute burst and its lovely in here again now
It doesn't have to be on permanently, but it is worth taking the chill off to avoid damp etc, esp on these horrible rainy days. The dehumidifier in my wardrobe is filling up fairly quickly so there is a lot of damp in the air.0 -
Still off here in NEast Scotland. Will put the flannelettte sheets on the bed this week though.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Ours is on for a total of 3 hours a day, just in the morning when we get up and at night when we go to bed.
Stove in the sitting room has been on, too warm for it tonight!!Was 13st 8 lbs,Now 12st 11 Lost 10 1/4lbs since I started on my diet.0 -
Our family challenge, like in the last few years, is to wait until 1st November. However we have had the woodstove on a couple of times on cold evenings (but we feel that "does not count" as the wood is all scavenged off skips and friends' gardens).
We have had hot water bottles in the bed also a couple of times and we find that it helps us away from the temptation of the boiler "on" switch!
See how it goes, however - we are quite determined but not going to be martyrs to the green cause, if it gets really REALLY cold, the central heating goes ON!
We must have done something really right last winter because recently we had an adjustment of our gas bill and it is almost halved! Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
Still off down here
Wrapped up in dressing gown and blanket as I am typing this but that's fine, I like being snuggly.
The only difficult bit is drying clothes. I did three loads over the weekend and they are still no where near dryI am sure they will dry eventually.....

Heating still off here
I tend to find that if I use the oven for cooking that warms the whole house enough for us - especially with a candle lit in the evening
Hubby is looking keener and keener to turn it on but I will resist him! I might loose the battle for the mornings though... especially if we get a cold spell lol but if we do I'm hoping he'll agree to only turn it on for half an hour just to take the chill out of the air...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! I had it on for a couple of hours a day for a few days last week just to dry washing, but then it went off again.
I have my window open at the moment as am desperately trying to get some air in/out as have noticed a bit of mould on the back of my mirror so can only assume that I have condensation problems =/ I don't want my furniture to get ruined...
I'm lovely and warm at the moment, but have got the heating set to come on in the morning for a bit and will try and leave my windows open a bit overnight to see if it helps. I do resent having the heating on and having it disappear out the window thoughI also have more washing to dry so will just have to stick it on the airer and hope for the best.
I know you can get those boxes that go in your wardrobe etc. for collecting moisture, but what are they called?! I don't mean a proper dehumidifier as they're too expensive to run, but am hoping these might make a bit of a difference.Grocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100
