Still no need for central heating (hot water bottle and extra woolen blanket on bed at night still sufficient, as are plaids on our knees in the evening watching TV
But I have TONS of laundry and when it rains, like these last few days, it takes AGES to dry, like 3 days with the thicker things like DH martial arts suits, and I am sorely tempted to switch it on just for the drying. Perhaps taking the wet clothes to the laundrette and use their dryer might be more practical, though... which is going to be the more expensive? Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
It was raining torrentially this morning when I dropped DH off at the bus stop, but it's 'turned out nice again' as George Formby would say! :rotfl: It's just over 17c outside (and rising) and is sunny and the barometer is rising, so I'm just off to hang out the washing. It's just over 20c in here, so another day where we don't need the heating. :T0

No need for ours on yet but a couple of cold evenings last week had me making friends with my sleeping bag on the sofa.
Lovely and sunny today (couple of rainy sessions) and warm here, too. Boiling in bed last night and regretting putting the winter quilt on but needed it last week.
Agree about the hardship in getting the washing dry. This next few weeks is always tricky where the weather is unreliable but there's still no heating on.AUGUST GROCERY CHALLENGE £115.93/ £250

ours is on a theromstat so comes on when it gets cold enough to trigger - it's been on a few mornings but hasn't clicked on most evenings yet. We've had a few fires in the lounge to keep toasty and have switched to winter bedding!People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

I loved the wooden floors in my old house, but when the very cold weather came it was more important to me to be warm. not spend a fortune on heating and to be cosy. So we had a rug, could still see lots of floor but the rug did the trick.
The house we live in now is very different, it's decorated in a mid century modern style, very sleek, white, uncluttered and clean looking. So again I have the choice to keep the look the same or to adapt for the winter. So I have curtains for the bedrooms and lounge, they'll be going up soon and I take them down for the summer and we'll just have blinds. I have draught excluders at the doors but they're covered in cool fabric to fit the look of the house. We have blankets but again, not just a plain fleece, just really nice things that suit our design. If you get things to co-ordinate and enhance the look of the room it's good..
yes, i'd agree with you alec eiffel re. your points about getting your home to be practical and comfy for you without it looking mismatched. unfortunately, without funds to spare, i don't have enough justification to spend that much money on the house. altho' i appreciate beautiful, welcoming rooms (in my dreams/my ideal home:cool:), my priorities is mainly on my garden and travelling trips that i enjoy.
In the green forum, i'd written a thread to request ideas on a kitchen maid/wooden clothes airer. Altho', I resent using the tumble dryer for much of last yr, I ended using the clothes horse as an alternative, that was put near the radiators (I was obsessively turning them over every hour or so in the evening!). This yr, with my mission to not have the CH on/or much at all, I am going to invest in a Kitchen Maid. Now my daughter has gone to Uni, I've now got her room spare, and thought it'll ideal to put the Kitchen Maid in there for the clothes to dry. Altho' my bedroom is the warmest in the house (East-facing), I don't think the KM will be appropriate (not least because my room is already cluttered with my own stuff).
My washing's out atm, and as the sun is here, the clothes aren't that dry yet. Obviously, they'll go in the airing cupboard later and by the morning they'll be dry again. That's my usual method of drying the clothes properly once they've been on the line all day. That is, to get bone-dry.
btw, i too, love the windows open at night. still finding it v. warm and not noticed any chill as yet before an extra blanket comes on.0 -
I was freezing when I woke up this morning! No heating for us yet though. At the weekend we're asking our letting agents to sort out the rads in the house that don't work at all but I'm really hoping to make it to November without the heating if we can.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member #398 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts :T

Ohh it's been a warm day here in London! I was out and about with a light jacket on and I had to take it off at one point. Now, sitting here I'm wearing a light top and have no heating on! :TBe careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.0
