Off. We have agreed to keep it that way until 1st November this year. We are dressing in layers, pjs, dressing gown, socks and even a scarf tonight! Hoping to stick to it as we really need to save up some cash for other stuffLeason learnt :beer:0

So far ours is off :j we tested it the other week, everything seemed to be working ok
So far just the autumn duvet is on (10.5tog) and when it gets a bit colder i will be putting the extra 4.5tog one on to make it a winter duvet . I am starting to wear PJs to bed to take the nip off. i seem to get really cold really easily where as DP is a hot body and doesnt feel the cold the same. We have a 19m daughter so needs to be a reasonable temp here (thinking about 15c) and we are due a little boy at christmas so obviously once he arrives the house will need to be atleast a constant 18c.
We have wheat bags and a wheat teddy for DD, 2 hot water bottles, a big fleece throw and a double sleeping bag. DD has tonnes of blankets. Need to get DD some slippers yet but i have some and DP doesnt use them. Washed all the scarves, hats and gloves yesterday and dug out the warmer coats. What else?
Our house is quite drafty. We moved in last year and only some of it is double glazed and its not insulated (getting some quotes on this!) and the front and back doors are ill fitted and let in a fair draftgot a curtain up on the front door which helps and tacked a blanket to the back one but its not big enough really. Need to get a door between kitchen and hallway as there currently isnt one, im sure that will help as its very drafty in the kitchen.
Our aim is no (or very little) heating until Oct 31st but all depends on the actual temp in house and how DD is.DFW Total £21,800 to clear by Dec 2022

We were trying to keep ours OFF until 1st Oct as we are in Cyprus for 10 days then so we thought -ah we can get 1/2 thru Oct but it didnt last Sunday night it went on for an hour to take chill off, mind you we got cavity wall done for £150 from E-On in May and we have noticed how it keeps warmer longer so thats good!! :jBetter to light a candle than to curse the darkness. :beer:0

I've had mine on twice for a half hour to take the chill off the house, my lot have had colds over the weekend, and the house was just a bit too nippy. Having said that, I normally have my back door open all day, and now it only stays open in ten minute bursts as the cold is really coming on. I hope to last as long as possible. No date on it this year, but cardis will be thrown at people in t shirts complaining of the cold. It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

oh im glad i found this thread - looking for some advice regarding heating/electric bills
currently with scottish power, but had npower round yesterday who have quoted me £10 cheaper per month. should i phone scottish power to see if they will match it? or stick with what im paying as my usage will go way up over the winter and i dont want to go into arrears.
also, is it cheaper to have the heating on low all day or on high during certain points of the day/night?
thanks
oh and my heating is currently off, hope to keep it that way for a while tooMoved into dream house - 17/08/12Savings - £600Xmas 2013 - £43Credit card - £2741 :eek:0 -
Its not what you pay per month in Direct Debits that counts, its the price per unit of electricity. Anyone can offer you lower direct debit prices, but it doesn't mean that your overall price will be cheaper, you could still end up in debt to the energy company at the end of the quarter. Go to Martin's advice and do price comparisons online to see who you would be cheaper with. I would never let anyone I know buy energy from a doorstepper (and I work for one of the Energy giants). It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0

il have a wee look at that site.
another question..... i know that at certain time of the day electricity/water is cheaper i.e its cheaper to use the washing machine during the night, does anyone know what time the cheaper rates kick in at?Moved into dream house - 17/08/12Savings - £600Xmas 2013 - £43Credit card - £2741 :eek:0 -
That's only if you have Economy Seven, you will know you have this if your bills for Electricity have two or three readings. If this is the case, there should be a timer or clock on your meter which will tell you what time your tariff changes, its usually after 10pm. Most folk with storage heating have these, they aren't so common in houses with gas c/heating.It's what is inside your head that matters in life - not what's outside your windowEvery worthwhile accomplishment, big or little, has its stages of drudgery and triumph; a beginning, a struggle and a victory. - Ghandi0
