thankfully not im down south so i guess a bit warmer (and one of not many areas thats had a cold weather payment triggered)

dreading the gas bill in febuary, used 120 units of gas already since 6th november and that was with pretty much going without in november , come january im going to have to cut back drastically

i cannot put a curtain up by door, as its wooden topped with glass not sure if im making much sense but anything if use to fix a pole or similer to would end out the other side if that makes sense

in the summer the door fits in the frame fine, in the winter it swells and bows causing the gap that daylight can be seen under, used a rolled up duvet last year as a draught excluder not big enough, but after one winter it went nasty

Have a search on internet and see if u have a freecycle or "freegle" in your area - and post a wanted message for a duvet, then you can dispose of it in spring if it nasty again. All items offered are for free, so u might be fortunate.

We had the C/H on nearly all day (not nights) over xmas while the kids were at home...but now they are back at school it's back on the timer (6.30am-8.00am then 3.45-8.00pm set at 20 degrees). It's freezing in here during the day. I do my jobs in the morning and it's ok then, but when i sit down to come on here i sit with my coat and a blanket on and i'm still frozen...but i'm worried about the gas bill so if i want to stay at home and be here for the kids after school and on hols then i have to make some sacrifices

We are having to keep it on 24 hrs a day just now,I have it turned down low though.
I thought I would try to save some money and turn it off during the night 2 nights ago and when we woke up the cold water had frozen in the pipes(-14 that night apparantly). It was after lunch time before it thawed. So to save the pipes, which are lagged BTW,I have no option but to have the heating on constantly for now.Have been doing that for 4 days now.
Also because its -6 here today and it gets colder in the night the max temperature inside the house with heating on is only 15 degrees in the warmest room so I still feel cold.
The house loses heat really quickly so if I turn it off the rooms get cold again within 20 minutes.
I am dreading my next gas bill.

I am luckier than hubby though,he said that it was so cold at work the water had frozen inside the toilet bowls at his office.Mind you his office is a metal container on a building site.

Off  the boilers broken

It's been between 12 & 14 degrees all day but tonight is forecast to be the coldest of the year so far. We have no coal for the fire as the garages have had none since the weekend when everyone panic bought

I am currently sat with 3 jumpers and a fleece, leggings under trousers, fleece socks and bootee slippers with a duvet over me and my hottie on my feet. What fun!

DH is just home from work so looking at the boiler now and if he can't fix it he can chop some wood so at least we can have one warm room tonight.

  • A very strange thing is happening: I've had no heating on since it was on for a couple of hours on Monday night and the temp has only dropped and stayed at 9 degrees centigrade. I have a top-floor flat on the end of a block, the living-room has a single-glazed window the entire length of one wall with neighbours downstairs and next door so I reckon I must be getting a fair bit of heat from them. For which I am truly grateful. Still, I've got layers and layers of clothes on and don't feel the tiniest bit chilly. HOORAY for thermal undies and socks!

of course its on - its minus 4 outside now and getting colder later. Not only is the heating on the wood fire is lit and I have a hotty on my feet! I have kids and there is no way go without heat if I had the option to have it

  • Ours is on 24/7 at 22c. Our living room leaks alot of heat, so OH has bought in the oil radiator from the office outside to put in the corner of the lounge. Not very MS but I'm warm.

    Also wearing several layers.

Heating been on in the lounge, flat out all day, storage heating. Panel heaters in bedroom on half the day. Hot water bottle under my feet and blanket round my legs. I know the electric bill is going to be huge but it's way below freezing here.

I'm always surprised when people leave their heating on while they are asleep - it was minus 8 degrees last night and I was fine with no heating and even had my bedroom window open.

I actually like sleeping under a nice warm duvet when it's really cold. I have 2 duvets (10.5 tog+4.5tog) + 2 blankets which I reckon is good for almost any cold snap. The room temp seems to stay at about plus 8 degrees even when it's minus 8 outside though.
