The highest the outside temp got upto today was -6 this afternoon. It's -12 now at just after 8.30, so expect it's going to be even colder during the night than it was last night (-14).
I too worry about the gas bill, but needs must. I'll turn it off before bed though (never have it on during the night) so, hopefully it won't be too much of a shock.
Sexkillen - fingers crossed your boiler's back up and running soon0 -

Very much on. I have it on for about an hour in the morning to coax me out of bed, then set it for another hour in the early evening so it's warm when I get in from work. Sometimes I bung it on for another hour in the evening if i'm really cold, I just can't sit here shivering and being able to see my breath! I put a thick pair of socks over my normal ones when I got in tonight and my dressing gown which is warmer than my throw and easier to move around in so i'm quite toasty at the moment and the heating has been off for about 4 hours.Grocery challenge - Nov: £52/£100

Mine is on all the time. I leave it on low over night as my little one wriggles out from under her covers and I don't want her to get cold.
Its minus 3 right now and going to get colder soon, I have already had the pipes freeze once and thats with the heating still going.I used to suffer from lack of motivation.... now I just can't be arsed.

Like some of the other posters, I have the gas heating on on low the whole time just now. I'm in an old victorian house and found I had to crank it up to setting 4 (out of 5) to get any sort of heat going when I was only putting it on for 7 hours a day. This way I'm keeping it at setting one and hoping the usage will even out. . I was also scared about getting frozen pipes.I don't know which way is more efficient.0

I switched the heating off after dd went to college this morning, the sun was shining in and it was okay. I put on a warm jumper and thick socks.
Went back on for a couple of hours this evening then I saw the news about gas reserves running low.
DD went straight to her bedroom to go on msn so heating off again.
Came to bed at 8.30, toasty warm under the duvet.
Heating does not go on automatically on a morning. I get up and get dressed as quickly as possible then get straight off to work, it seems silly to have the heating on for hours for this .When it rains look for RainbowsWhen its Dark look for Stars0 -

hi
im a heating on girl but we did hold out a while and are very sparing with it! (so much so we have £50 in credit and have only been in house since august) so not much time to build credit. I dont do cold but i also dont do warm. Last couple of years we lived in a studio with no heating apart from two electric heaters which were useless! so i guess we are used to the cold. We had my inlaws to stay who feel the cold and they insisted on the heating on over night and on all the time. Because of the cold this week (minus 10 wed morning!) i have had it on more than normal and im now covered in horrible dry skin!!! must be because we have had it on so much over the last couple of weeks! I also dont have it on over night, makes me move faster in the morning when im first up lol!Crafting for 2009 items doneOne patchwork blanket, two neck supports, one tea cosy, one knitted bunny, one knitted egg!0
