Well it's on here for an hour in the morning and from 6 - 10 in the evening. I'm at home this week though so I am putting it on for an hour or 2 in the day too...so cold here in N Yorkshire...snow still on the ground since Christmas eve!
  • I keep my home at 24c constantly. It's just not worth living in a cold home - how can you function as a human being if you have to wear more clothes inside than outside and have to sit in front of the television in a sleeping bag because of how cold it is?

The books are sitting just there on the floor.

Carrie, we have had more snow than we had for years - and we get a lot of it every winter ! I had to dig the cat out AGAIN, he was stuck in his box mewin his head off with a wall of snow blocking him in lol ! The forecast today says "light snow showers near the coasts".....well we are well inland and we had constant heavy snow since I got up at half 8 !! :) It's a goo djob I like snow eh...:)

aw bless! I normally love the snow too, but this year it's the blinkin ' ice underneath that's getting me down, they said on the telly it's been -18 in some parts and I can quite believe it too! Yesterday I thawed the birdbath out 5 times it just kept freezing over solid , poor little birdies

That depends on how cold it is ! And never forget that millions years ago, when I grew up ( in the 50s lol!)- many more people died each winter with bronchitis & chest complaints. People now tend to forget that. Plus chilblains will make a comeback..and they were a right pain !

Double curtains, or curtains lined with cheap fleece blankets will stop the draughts. In one very old flat I used to live in I had full length curtains tight against the windows then another lined set further out from the frame, with lots of excess at the sides to block the draughts.

At the doorway, use that foam draghtproofing strip round the edge and a long fabric sausage stuffed with old tights or something to keep out the draughts. Then put a curtain across it too.

If you have radiators on an outside wall, cut a sheet of cardboard to fit behind it, cover it with tinfoil and slide it back so that the tinfoil faces into the room. It will help reflect the heat back into the room.

Then take a lit candle and walk slowly round the house, looking for the source of any draughts when the flame gets blown sideways. Sometimes you can get terrible draughts under the edge of and round skirtings and of course old wooden floorboards have lots of draughts. Fitted carpets work best here but as a temporary measure use rugs on the floor and rolled up blankets etc along the skirtings.

I think we all have our individual range of comfortable temperature. Some people need a very warm room, while I definitely function better in a cooler temperature, ideally 16-18c . I prefer to have a jumper on, and cool air on my face and in my lungs.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.
