To those living in flats, I guess it's different! I have a friend who lives in a flat and I must say it's very warm even without the heating on.
We have had the heating on for most of November (a little at first to take the chill off the air, then more as the days and nights got colder). Our gas bill isn't that high though TBH - £30-40 a month in winter and £10 a month in summer. We use gas for cooking, heating and all hot water so that's not bad at all (I reckon - what do others think?). Our house was completely renovated right before we moved in and has a brand spanking new boiler and all kinds of insulation, maybe that's why it doesn't cost us much in gas.
This autumn has been soooo mild, right up to the first week of November it was great!Get to 119lbs! 1/2/09: 135.6lbs 1/5/11: 145.8lbs 30/3/13 150lbs 22/2/14 137lbs 2/6/14 128lbs 29/8/14 124lbs 2/6/17 126lbs

Well it's getting warmer than it was earlier, we've got a blizzard outside but its not lying, just wet. Very windy.0

Tara that is good going for your gas bill in the winter. You're right, it is so much easier being in a flat to keep warm providing it is well insulated which this one is. The flat I used to live in was absolutely freezing and if I was there now I would have had the heating on by now. It was solid walls with no insulation and an electric heating system that cost a fortune.
MrsTittlemouse, you did the right thing putting the heating on if you have a chest infection. I remember you saying that the heating doesn't go on til December but you can' mess about with your health.
I'm interested to see who holds out the longest as I can't believe I've come this far without heating. (Except electric blanket, does that count?) It's averaging 18 degrees in doors and outside it's around 6 degrees.0 -

It's not adding to my gas/elec bill though so I still class it as heating being off, plus we bought 4 massive bags of smokeless fuel at the end of the summer, we'd put aside what was left each week out of our weekly food shopping budget so the smokeless fuel is a bonus which didn't need to be budgeted for (if you see what I mean)*wonders when they will make dressing gowns acceptable day wear?*No new toiletries challenge - use up the stash first!NSD Jan 2/150 -

wow that's amazing, while our CH is off we have been having coal fires more frequently since it's turned cold. We don't have double glazing in our house though, it's not well insulated at all, looking forward to the days when we have our own house*wonders when they will make dressing gowns acceptable day wear?*No new toiletries challenge - use up the stash first!NSD Jan 2/150 -

So if someone had oil fuelled central heating, could they put their heating on 24 hours hours per day and still claim not to have the heating on?
I understand the phrase "not having the heating on" to mean nothing artificially adding heat to the house.0 -
My goodness its gone cold i had CH on last evening,The thermo was really low heat just tiking over .Been off all day keeping warm by doing loads housework.0
